Presidential vacations: How does Obama compare?
CBS ^ | 08/17/2011 | Mark Knoller

Posted on 08/17/2011 6:04:16 PM PDT by ConservativeTerrapin

Following his three-day bus tour to promote his economic agenda -- and not to mention the debt limit rancor in Washington before that -- President Obama is finally getting some rest and relaxation.

On Thursday, he and his family are heading off to Martha's Vineyard, the island off of Massachusetts. They'll be staying at a 28-acre retreat called Blue Heron Farm for about 10 days.

There has been criticism of the president's vacation at this time. But how does the number of vacation days the president has spent compare to his predecessors? CBS Radio's Mark Knoller has kept track of presidential vacations for years and supplied the data.

So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office. At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken 112 vacation days at his ranch.

Among recent presidents, Bill Clinton took the least time off -- 28 days.

To be fair, a presidential vacation away from the White House is not the same as a vacation for the average person. The president is still in contact with his advisers and on call for any emergency.

Apparently people at Martha's Vineyard hate the bastRAT.
Screwing up traffic, when he goes for lunch to restaurant, secret butler service closes the whole restaurant for the day.

Notice they try to compare W and Reagan spending time at their “Western White House” locations to Obama leisure trips to Hawaii, Martha’s Vineyard and beyond.

What a dreadful distortion of truth and facts. Bush often ran the country from the Ranch. As for Obama's golf resort games, and his bassaball games, and his ice cream eating travels for his 2012 re-election, I guess they don't matter either.

What I'd like to know, is how much of OUR MONEY Obama SPENDS on his vacations as compared to the other recent Presidents, while the American people suffer financial loss and misery every day. And this scab calls himself a 'leader'? Furthermore, we are at war with THREE countries and our economy is in the toilet so badly that Americans haven't seen the likes of this since the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl days; and Obama fiddles and lives like a King in a country that has no problems. He couldn't solve any damn problems anyway, so why not just stay on vacation all the time and let his hacks do the job?

When someone really screws up at work and causes serious repercussions is not the time to then just run off, ignore the problems and take a vacation.

Also, when someone really screws up at work, you can't explain it away by saying "it's not my fault, it's the fault of the guy who worked here 3 1/2 years ago."

Bet the Obama’s have spent the most money on vacations of any Presidents. Much of which has been out of country or on their boozy parties at the WH. Bet they beat the other Presidents on those too. Bush mostly had working time at the ranch and had visiting dignitaries visit there, which of course was work. Those trips were real cheap compared to the Obama’s.

Oh wait, ISeeBS is covering for the AnointedIdiot’s lavish vacations and such by comparing the vacation time of an ass that has been in office for less than three years to another ass that was in office for 8 years? =.=

Bush and Reagan went to their OWN PROPERTY for their time off. Taxpayers weren't charged for their accomodations. There was nothing ritzy about their ranches. Nothing like the lavishness of BO and the Mooch’s Hawaiian vacations or Martha's Vineyard.

One of the things that drove the MSM totally crazy when George W. Bush was President was the fact his summer home was a ranch outside Crawford, TX--almost literally "out in the sticks" with temperatures over 100 °F. in the summer and over 50% humidity--ouch!

Can you imagine what would happen if one Sarah Palin becomes President and the MSM has to go out to her possible summer home in Wasilla, AK about two hours' drive north of Anchorage? Considering the cost just to fly to Anchorage, the MSM might not even send that many people up there in the first place.

As you said, the question for all of us is did Bush send the Govt. A bill for staying at Bush’s own residence.....and was it equal to the Tax payer cost of Obama’s “Martha’s Vinyard” bill. ?
Let us compare COSTS, not time and location.

Are you kidding? Don't you remember the scavenger hunt the MSM was on once she was named as the VP nominee? There were literally HUNDREDS of the MSM in Anchorage, Juneau and Wasilla.

But that "scavenger hunt" must have really lightened the wallets of MSM organizations because flying to Anchorage--I've checked the schedules for several airlines and getting to Anchorage on Alaska Airlines or Delta Airlines (using former Northwest Airlines routes) are NOT in the cheap department.

I call complete bulls**t on this one.

Bush has NOT spent that much time in Texas ... 180 DAYS !!! claimed by CBS at the 2-1/2 year point?? ... at this time in the his presidency: Sept 11 occurrred early in his term (not nearly 2-1/2 years in!) and Bush did NOT spend 180 days on “vacation” during the entire 8 years of the War on Terror.

Bingo! Obama & Clinton are both the annoying tourist. Bush’s wealth and family status speak for themselves and he was still running the show.

This is nothing more than hidden class warfare from SeeBS.

I imagine the networks have pre-negotiated rates, much like the government.

That's where some of the idiotic "Reality TV" revenue goes.
