There are certain types of cats that are very affectionate - Siamese, for instance, although they can do overkill very quickly. I’ve read that cats only have a memory span of about 4 months so that may have something to do with their lack of affection. They just don’t remember their owner died.

Some lovely quotes - especially Jean Cocteau - a wonderful artist and film director.

Leonardo WAS a huge cat lover - he drew them continually. But his cats do not look like modern-day cats. They almost look like small mountain lions or other wild breeds.

Of course, the major lover of cats were the Eygptians which explains the snooty attitude of most cats. They have never forgotten that they were once worshipped as gods.

“All of my cats are Republicans, but they’re not very happy with the current crop of Republican leadership.”

Funny. Both of my dogs say exactly the same thing :)

Oh, yes they do. Love & affection back for starters, & I also get little birdies, mice & voles!

I think it is about time I get another kitten/cat.

Cats live in the eternal welfare state. They expect you to do everything for them and expect to do nothing in return.

A dog is prepared to work for his living. If you don’t give him a job, he finds jobs on his own, even if it is just keeping the communistic squirrels in their place.

I have the opposite view... Dogs are eternally grateful for the least little attention.

Which sounds precisely like come core voting blocs that the Democratic party counts on support from in every election.

When I had peacocks they must have been Democrats. Had I only known, I would not have shed a tear when they died.

None of them ever minded. They were supposed to walk around looking pretty in the daytime and roosted safely in their barn at night.

Instead, they hid in the barn in the day and tried to escape out side at night where they invariably would get caught and eaten by a fox. Maybe if I got some Republican peacocks I’d have better luck next time.

One of my favorites:

God made the cat in order to give man the pleasure of petting the tiger.

Yes! I love that one - there was a PBS documentary many years ago called “Petting the Tiger,” about the lives of cats living on farms. That’s the first time I heard that expression.

It actually sounds like something Leonardo Da Vinci might write but since it’s anonymous I guess it will have to stay that way.

Hitler was said to have been a cat hater.

Pope Benedict XVI is a cat lover. When he was Cardinal Ratzinger he cared for an orange tabby cat in Rome. They even wrote a book about it, from the point of view of the cat. He had to leave the cat behind when he moved into the Vatican, and someone else cares for the cat now.

Actually, cats can keep all rodents out of the house. I have the laziest, most insolent feline that ever drew breath, but she does keep the mice population down to a bare minimum. Also, their extraordinary hearing will allow you to pick up on intruders - if you watch their ears prick up at the right time.

I used to call my dear Mocha Girl Dog a mooching democrat all the time.

We have a chocolate lab that we occasionally call Obama. That is generally when she is in one of her "lazy" moods where she expects us to serve her or generally being very annoying (ok ok, she is getting kinda old and the annoying part isn't too often).

But we stopped calling her that lately because the last time when we did, she gave us the strangest, saddest look --- like "quit insulting me" !!!

Seriously --- that looks EXACTLY like our old cat, Tiger (long gone, but still has a special place in our hearts).
