He stopped smoking years ago when his daughter was born. I think he cleaned up his act a little when he married.
He is right about Deen, of course. Burgers on glazed donuts! I love Southern cooking but she gave that up for pure excess.
Both have their faults but at least he is trawling for good tasting food.
He ate a half cooked iguana on one show. In another he ate beside a pile of goat dung complaining about the flys.
yummmm
I can’t remember who said this, but he/she claimed that Southern cooking was basically about sugar, fats, and alcohol.
But what would I know? I’m from California. I like my salad crisp and with avocado, my rib steak rare, and full-bodied red wine to go with both.
Bourdain can be hilarious. He’s honest about his wild youth and his show is not for everyone - twisted crispy humor from the nuthouse of his mind while on a on a global culinary trek that scopes out both the underbelly as well as the pinnacle of cultures. He did one show about Absinthe in Paris instead of April in Paris and visited the hotels and some of the bars where famous people went bonkers on it a century or more ago. From a historical perspective it was fascinating and full of detail - full of admonition of the green muse.
