If I was in charge of such a security detail, I would not limit it to just guns.
That is, I would include both a master knife fighter, and a master unarmed fighter to the mix, as well as a “stand off”, somebody away from the crowd who looks for anything strange in the crowd, as well as lateral security.
Guns do have limitations in close quarters, and in a situation like that, there are different “windows” of parameters for different weapons. Knife fighting has a different, if somewhat overlapping window from guns. And the same with unarmed combat.
The “stand off” observer practices an art as well as a science, so they are also very specialized in what they do, spotting attackers in crowds and directing the security response with minimum chatter.
Lateral security have a tough job, as they are the soccer players of security, traveling a much greater distance at a faster clip, to head off ambushes, yet doing so discreetly. As often as not, when they see some threat, they are also first response, so have to bust up an attack with both barrels blazing.
