FRANK LUNTZ: A Less-Than-Frank Dunce
© 2011 By Anthony James
The list of political types who have formed a virtual conga line around Washington DC chanting in near unison their various reasons why Sarah Palin is just not their cup of TEA, shall we say, has given birth to some of the strangest bedfellows this town has seen since GOP Sen. Benedict Arlen Spector cited Scottish Law when joining with the Democrats in trying to block the impeachment of Bill Clinton.
Nonetheless, that list grew recently as Frank Luntz, formerly considered to be an objective pollster whose reports could be counted upon for their evenhanded dissemination of scientifically generated data, has just come out of the closet as America's newest Sarah Palin basher. According to the newly self redefined Luntz, there is no room for Sarah Palin to join the presidential race since she and Michelle Bachmann are basically the same candidate.
How very astute of Frank to make careful note of the fact [sic] that Michelle Bachmann has served as the chief executive of a state, with command control of its air National Guard.
I'm sure it's comforting to those parties who might have been considering paying Mr. Luntz for his valuable opinions to see that he's taken into account that Michelle Bachmann has decades dealing closely with Big Oil, and is thus fluently conversant with the minutia of energy issues and how they might affect our economy, not to mention our National Security.
Equally reassuring, no doubt, is how Representative Bachmann has also negotiated massive international construction projects involving multiple countries and several of the world's largest corporations.
We can be equally sure Mr. Luntz threw into the equation, whereby he arrived at his considered opinion, the numerous times Michelle Bachmann has prosecuted and sent to jail those among her predecessors who ran afoul of the law.
No... wait a minute... I'm sorry. Michelle Bachmann has done none of those things, although if she had, they most certainly would have contributed greatly to her gravitas as a potential presidential figure. While there is an extremely charismatic female political figure who has done all those things, it isn't Michelle Bachmann. And in fact, the one person who has done all of those things is also known for drawing massive crowds to her speaking engagements and political rallies. Crowds so huge that they are as large as or larger than the 2008 Obama crowds Michelle Bachmann doesn't do that either. It leads one to wonder, what was Frank thinking? How both Michelle and Sarah have long brown hair? Perhaps that they both wear skirts at times?
Yes they're both Christian, but so is 80% or more of the American public.
Suffice to say, there was a time up until quite recently when Frank Luntz could be counted upon for fair and objective analysis of hard data based on factual proof. We now have from the horses mouth a surprisingly loud announcement that that has changed.
As we approach the coming 2012 election cycle getting into high gear, there will be many groups and individuals who will want to be able to count on the money that they spend buying them something besides more ill based partisan rhetoric, which they can get for free from Chris Matthews, or any number of microphone-wearing dunces on MSNBC. It'll be a roll of the dice what they'll get now from Mr. Luntz, now that he has exposed his new fascination with agenda-driven punditry offered up in place of reliable political analysis.
Should Sarah Palin decide to enter the 2012 presidential race, not only will there be room for her, but the amount of room she will require to hold both the ocean of enthusiasm waiting to crest across America like a tidal wave, in addition to the room needed for the improbably massive throngs of a fervent Sarah supporters giving vent to this jubilant celebration will arguably be larger than all the space needed by all the other also-rans combined.
I say without hesitation that Mr. Luntz could not have been more completely wrong had he chosen to vent his partisan agenda on any other topic. That he could be so utterly incorrect about something so easily apparent to any who approach the topic with their eyes open is doubtless less than reassuring to those considering paying him for his opinion.
Governor Palin's path to the helm of America's political ship of state is littered with the metaphorical carcasses of those who badly misjudged or underestimated her. That Frank Luntz has decided to prostrate himself amongst those fallen is truly unfortunate. In one ill-conceived screed, he has gone from Frank Luntz to less-than-frank dunce.
I thought Luntz recently paid her some compliments and said that she would shake up the race, that she was a very gifted politician with a passionate following, etc.
The quotes on this thread sound totally different from what he said recently.
frank luntz may be the most annoying person on the planet. it drives me to distraction whenever he and his little mob of wheel turning idiots show up after a debate to tell me what to think. a “focus” group, I believe he calls it.
I have actually flipped over to PMSNBC.
Yes, she has an enthusiastic following, but she is a rock star not a legitimate candidate. A few months as governor and no knowledge of economics etc.
Whatever the explanation, in between changing feet, some truly weird words came out of his mouth, including something about there being no room for Sarah Palin in the Republican Primary races because she occupies the same space as Michele Bachmann.
He was also pushing Chris Christie and Paul Ryan as potential additional candidates.
Maybe he thought they were making a movie for Disney and he was playing a part in it and had to read the script.
Luntz? Luntz who? Who is this Luntz guy? I know Sarah Palin, but I don’t know no Luntz.
Luntz objective? Evenhanded? Not in this lifetime. The guy is a propagandist, always has been.
I agree. Palin would embarrassing as a candidate.
How about a few months as Senator and no knowledge of economics? Does that work for you?
I'll even throw in a little community organizing.
Before you say anything watch this Luntz video. He did not say anything bad about Sarah.
Couldn't read past there. The author obviously isn't an NRA member/2A advocate.
Sounds about right, like politics as usual.
Yeah, I heard him say some really nice stuff this week. It is just that there is no room for any criticisam at all of Palin.
That said, it is perfectly okay to savagely criticise the candidates that are actually running.
So, everyone who dares offer a little criticism is added to the naughty list.
“I agree. Palin would embarrassing as a candidate.”
You be embarrassing as a blogger.
Luntz fair and objective - anyone who would prance around all of the time spouting euphemisms and using poll-tested words, wearing that garish red wig looking like Bozo the clown or Clarabelle (acting like the useful idiot the left love.)
One of Luntz’s biggest clients is FNC and FNC doesn't want Palin to run.
In all seriousness though, I don’t understand the fanaticism here on FR for Palin.
my wife and i switch the channel when frank luntz comes on.
"Come gather 'round people wherever you roam,
And admit that the waters around you have grown,
And accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin' or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.
I heard him say that too, G. It really surprised me. And I don’t watch this week, so it had to have been on Fox. I think it was on Megyn’s show, but I’m not sure. What I did notice was that he looked uncomfortable. And then I saw rove do HIS hit. The establishment longknives are out and making no effort to hide it anymore.
When Luntz is citing responses from his focus groups, he says so. This was his own off-the-cuff opinion offered as such in normal discussion. And it has only the most improbative possible basis in oversipmplistic "facts."
Saying "Palin" and "Bachmann" in the same breath is borderline delusional... as you'll be reminded of all-too-clearly when she announces and the country shakes so that your coffee spills from the response.
Yeh we got over Luntz awhile back. I have suspected him for a lefty for some time.
Lintz is not a pollster. He hires focus groups and works hard to convince them that they ought to think what he tells them to. He’s a jackass. Bad for the party and bad for the country.
My feeling about SP. The reason that FR is fanatical about her is because she has been so unfairly maligned by the LSM as well as RINOS. I don’t post here often, but I think folks here don’t take kindly to this treatment of her as she represents many of our own core values and they don’t want the media elites picking our candidate for us like they did last go-around. I would like SP to jump in, even if it would be to merely broaden the discussion. Although, if she runs I will do all I can to support her and boost her campaign.
If anyone can justify watching Fox news after this, let me know. For curiosity’s sake.
While you’re at it, tell me why anyone anywhere should continue to watch any channel on cable television, and why they shouldn’t immediately discontinue all cable or satellite television service.
IIRC, Luntz coined the phrase "climate change" as opposed to globull warming.
Couldn't have Al out there touting warming while it was snowing and freezing, lol!
< actually snickering at you... >
I found it. My apology to you. I guess he is just another idiot, but don’t shoot the messenger I’m a big Sarah fan.
I read this in "American Thinker." I'll continue to read "American Thinker," as well as watch football, C-Span, Boston Celtics, Hannity, etc.
Really? Sez who? As I recall Palin was the first major Republican to point out that QE2 was going to devalue the dollar and cause higher consumer prices. The "knowedgable" folks laughed, but she was right, and they were wrong.
Not even close where the rubber meets the voting booth... or in practical experience/astounding track record, for that matter.
The mission of Frank Luntz appears to be the same as most Democrats: reduce crucial issues of national security, fiscal/tax policy, immigration, etc. to a simple recitation of buzzwords trotted out at every venue or debate. Deep thought, words of two syllables or more or a unifying theme are unneeded, even unwanted, in the world of Luntz.
Luntz may or may not acknowledge it but his ultimate candidate is Barack Obama, who can spew teleprompter catchphrases all night long. We’ve seen how that works out.
PS - the same wheel-turning idiots are worshiped by USA Today for their ‘Admeter’ scores during the Super Bowl.
Frankly, I couldn’t give a damn what people who willingly watch commercials think.
Just trying to bring a little truth and reality into this delusional tripe.
Thanks for the link. I did watch the segment on Fox and Friends and he sure did not say anything negative about her
Isn’t rawstory.com a left wing site? Who would believe anything the say? I sure don’t
Whether you understand it, is it really any skin off of your nose? There’s room for anyone who wants to run that meets the constitutional requirements.
What’s delusional? Someone posted a piece about a comment a pundit made. Someone later in the thread found a link to the actual statement. He’s certainly entitled to his opinion, just as those here are welcome to disagree.
LOL! Well I guess you could call 36 months in the position "a few months". How do you know that Sarah has no knowledge of economics? After her stints on the Town Council, then as the Mayor of Wasilla, she served on the State Oil and Gas Board, apparently doing well in that position.
When she defeated BOTH the establishment Republican, and the Democrat, for the office of Governor, she seemed to handle well the issue of just compensation to the people of Alaska for the oil and gas removed from their state. She went up against not only the oil companies, but the establishment representatives of both parties, even to the point of putting a couple of them in jail for corruption.
Don't be so hard on yourself-- your tripe isn't that delusional...
No knowledge of economics, you say? Well, she believes in unleashing the free market and ending onerous regs. There is no one more competent to lead America right now than Sarah Palin. Bob
Whether Luntz said good things or bad things about Palin, the guy is still a fat, annoying putz.
Well, I agree with you.
