Word For The Day, Wednesday, 8/31/11

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

sequacious; adj.

following with smooth or logical regularity. 2. Archaic . following, imitating, or serving another person, especially unreasoningly <1. Conformist, following others in thought and behavior rather than leading. 2. Following a logically consistent direction, as a sequacious argument or line of reasoning. Sequacious is both lovelier and more descriptive than conformist, making it the perfect substitute, "The tattoo trade thrives on a sequacious youth trying to be iconoclastic." Don't forget that this word also refers to consistency in thought and behavior: "Trying to diet over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays doesn't strike me as completely sequacious."

Etymology: Today's word comes from Latin, as do so many English words. This one is based on the Latin sequax (sequac-s) "following, pursuing", the present participle of sequi "to follow". In Sanskrit, the ancient ancestor of Hindi and a language related to Latin and English, it became sak- "to follow" and sakis "friend". The original root also took on the suffix -ondo- (sekw-ondo-), becoming secundus "following, coming next, second" in Latin, whence English borrowed it for our word second.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

Here is my example with WFTD.

It doesn't appear to me that there is any sequaciousness of thought with regards to choosing a republican nominee. I really wish that FR would do a poll, i would be interested to see how FR shakes out.

The media carefully sidestep this sequacious fact and continue to push Romney because they know it's true.

I hear them talk about Perry fizzling and Romney coming back and i think, how delusional. They have no idea that no one WANTS Romney, that the only reason he had any traction at all was because of the weakness of the field. Perry entering it changed that. No way that the novelty is going to wear off Perry and that Romney will surge, that’s just crazy talk. A+++

The “Audacity of Hope”, it turns out, is nothing more than the Sequacity of Liberalism—the same old policies, the same old ideas, the same old prejudices, the same old tactics, adhered to and applied with drone-like consistency.

How awkward is THIS??? The Terror Pixie's discrimination suit was tossed by a former Gonzaga hockey dad! Judge Dick Leon!

Does anyone besides me recall hearing Shemp refer to katherine Herridge as the TERROR PIXIE once on his 3pm show? i was APPALLED, and in light of this suit, i can't imagine him being so stupid as to say something like that. It was several years ago now, as i recall.

If she wishes to appeal to the public, the first lady must realize that imitating wookies and sasquatches, is not sequacious.

I heard Skynyrd live back in the 70’s at an outdoor concert in B’ham. Awesome show!! Also one of my frat brothers went to high school with them in Jacksonville, FL and had Leonard Skinner as a coach!

That’s who the band is named after.

Hi xsmommy.

Inquiring minds ponder the question daily until they tire,
as to whom our sequacious, stalinistic, slavedriving,
slavesupporting, (undocumented) tyrant does most admire?
