Relax football fans: Obama speech won't trump NFL (This is Hugh!)

(Reuters) - American football fans can rest easy: President Barack Obama's nationally televised jobs speech to Congress will not conflict with the season-opening NFL game between the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints.

Obama agreed late on Wednesday to move his jobs address to a joint session of Congress back by a night from September 7 to September 8 to avoid overlapping with a debate by Republican presidential candidates on the first night.

Late on Thursday, however, they agreed on 7:00 p.m. (EDT, 4:00 p.m. PDT)

Most of the left coast, including me, will still be working and won't have to listen to his drivel!

Anyone who watches both the speech and the game will no doubt remember only the game the next morning. They’ll probably start channel surfing waiting for Obozo to wrap up his act.

Why does Barry need to do this show during prime time anyway? There are plenty of “paid programming” hours that are open between 1:00 a.m to 5:00 a.m.

Exactly, when many 0bama voters are up, waiting for their welfare check to come.

Does this mean the prima donna has to be on time for once?

Maybe, he may sign an executive order, though, moving the kick-off to 8:00 p.m....

Pubs should show respect to the President—— when he enters, give him a 45 minute standing ovation.

Lol! Don’t give him ideas. Boehner’s got him in a mega-snit already; there’s no telling what he’ll do to retaliate.

Again even though 7 pm is rather convenient for us east coasters, looks like next Thursday at 7 pm will be the time to clean the cat box.

I would *love* for him to be late. Especially if he got extra wordy, ran through his allotted time and stepped on the start of the game. He'd raise the national Obamameter from 'generally disliked buffoon' to 'goddamned idiot' among the entire population of independents.

No response necessary, no one will be watching; but then again, maybe a Boehner Half-Time crying Show???

If I were a betting person, I would NOT put my $ on him (1) being on time, or (2) staying within his allotted time-slot.

Otoh, Axelrod is just panicked enough to kick Little Barry into shape. A popular pres can get away with things a Stuttering Clusterpuck of a Miserable Failure cannot.

If he stops talking in a timely manner then his speech will not conflict with the game. But the game will conflict with the customary televised opposition statemets in reply to the speech.

What we have here is a Spech From the Throne in the parliamentary manner.

To be consistant, he really ought to follow it up with his parliamentary draftsman producing explicit legislation and with a formal budget, all designed to implement the contents of the Speech From the Throne.

;)

OOPS, typo:

"Spech From the Throne" should have read "Speech From the Throne".

Most pro-football fans have one hand on their crotch and the other hand in a bowl of potato chips. They actually need 3 hands, one more to hold in their gut so they can buckle their size 54 pants.

I think all the publicity with the speaker of the house turning him down for Wednesday night will cause more people to watch both the debate on that night and the presidents speech on the next night.

On the other hand, they may remember very little of the game because they had already finished off a few by the time hussein finished.

Maybe he should set up his teleprompter at the US Open so that his back and forth head movement fits right in with the spectators watching the tennis matches.

Yep, 1 a.m. works for me. It will be opposite the infomercials for how to buy real estate with no money down, the infomercials for Time-Life CD rock and roll hits of the ‘50s and ‘60s, and the infomercials for DVDs of the Dean Martin celebrity roasts.

On top of that, the NFL had planned a Kid Rock performance and the introduction of an NFL Legends team during the pregame show.

Granted, Kid Rock isn’t a big draw, but I’d take a Sinead O’Connor boyfriend audition over obama’s speech.
