Villagers Pull One-Ton Crocodile Out of Creek in Philippines
Published September 05, 2011 AP
MANILA, Philippines -- Villagers and veteran hunters have captured a one-ton saltwater crocodile which they plan to make the star of a planned ecotourism park in a southern Philippine town, an official said Monday.
Mayor Edwin Cox Elorde said dozens of villagers and experts ensnared the 21-foot male crocodile along a creek in Bunawan township in Agusan del Sur province after a three-week hunt. It could be one of the largest crocodiles to be captured alive in recent years, he said, quoting local crocodile experts.
Elorde said the crocodile killed a water buffalo in an attack witnessed by villagers last month and was also suspected of having attacked a fisherman who went missing in July.
He said he sought the help of experts at a crocodile farm in western Palawan province.
"We were nervous but it's our duty to deal with a threat to the villagers," Elorde told The Associated Press by telephone. "When I finally stood before it, I couldn't believe my eyes."
After initial sightings at a creek, the hunters set four traps, which the crocodile destroyed. They then used sturdier traps using steel cables, one of which finally caught the enormous reptile late Saturday, he said.
About 100 people had to pull the crocodile, which weighs about 2,370 pounds, from the creek to a clearing where a crane lifted it into a truck, he said.

I dunno, but it would be a great meat additive to kare-kare’..
In bet they taste like Balut
If only Steve Irwin was still around to see this!
Amazing. That thing is probably more than a century old, too.
Now THAT is a big croc. That little gator that someone posted about last week would be a snack for this fellow.
make a nice sauce piquante wit dat.
Mey, you could feed everybody up and down the bayou.
I almost did not believe that. That must have been one unique alligator, comparable in size to the larger crocodiles (the Nile, Mugger and Saltwater crocodiles). Really interesting. I almost called 'bull' on that figure until I decided to check (since FReepers don't usually pull figures out of their behinds, meaning you must have known what you were talking about). That was one BIG alligator, and quite surprising because I never thought gators could get even NEAR that size. I thought that was purely crocodile territory (I've seen a lot of Nile crocodiles, and when they get big they are basically living nightmares). Thank you for the information.
The only time I ever went anywhere long enough to need that much luggage, Uncle Sam supplied all of my luggage and clothes.
The only beer to serve with it is San Miguel Painted Label.
“A real crocodile could make you stop drinking.”
“It’d have to be a really big crocodile.”

I had a hard time telling the head from the tail! Would like to see a close up of its big old face.
Sounds good, serve it up!!
The one on the right. Not the best beer in the world, but far better than most Asian beers and goes very well with pancit, lumpia, seafood and hamburgers.
I’ve tasted it. It’s a whole lot better than Singha or Chang.
That’s the one. The only ghosts would be the spirits of Jap soldiers who were killed in their barracks at Lily Hill. Legend has it that the Negrito tribesmen would sneak in at night and slit the throats of every other Jap soldier. The survivors never slept very well after that.
That’s a mighty big salty. They sure it only took 1 villager and not a villager a month?
