The largest American Alligator on record was taken just south of me in Iberia Parish, LA. It measured just over 19’ and weighed in at 2,200 lbs.
That’s a lot of shoes, belts, purses, and eatin’!
I almost did not believe that. That must have been one unique alligator, comparable in size to the larger crocodiles (the Nile, Mugger and Saltwater crocodiles). Really interesting. I almost called 'bull' on that figure until I decided to check (since FReepers don't usually pull figures out of their behinds, meaning you must have known what you were talking about). That was one BIG alligator, and quite surprising because I never thought gators could get even NEAR that size. I thought that was purely crocodile territory (I've seen a lot of Nile crocodiles, and when they get big they are basically living nightmares). Thank you for the information.
