Or perhaps it was the sullen, put-upon sneer she had on her face as she walked into the courtroom believing she was getting away with murder with barely a slap on the wrist. Not a hint of remorse that I could see, no shocked look of surprise that she was expecting to ‘get away’ with the death of her child so easy. I didn’t even see the sneer change when the judge, rather incredulously, said he couldn’t grant the requested arrangement because loss of life was involved.

As to the ‘laundry day’ attire - you’d think a parent would try to wear sack cloth and ash because of their inward emotional state or, if the parent doesn’t care how their actions cost the life of their child, that her attorney would have made her wear something reflecting mourning tragedy.
