Word For The Day, Monday, 9/12/11



In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

beguile; verb

verb (used with object), -guiled, -guil·ing. 1. to influence by trickery, flattery, etc.; mislead; delude. 2. to take away from by cheating or deceiving (usually followed by of ): to be beguiled of money. 3. to charm or divert: a multitude of attractions to beguile the tourist. 4. to pass (time) pleasantly: beguiling the long afternoon with a good book.

Etymology: [Word History/Etymology]

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

In Paris, the Gypsies try to beguile the unsuspecting tourists out of their moola. Quite annoying, really.

This thread beguiled me into spending a frustrating few minutes trying to think of how to use the verb in a topical sentence! However, I did enjoy the experience. :)

No, I heard of the Gypsy Wedding show when it inspired Kate Moss to get married. I wiah I could see the show, because the only time I see gypsies, they are begging on the subways or leaving trahed campsites near the train tracks.

pretty much just white trash on stilts!
