Sat 129 is having issues. It should primarily affect the west coast.

Man, thanks for a blast from the 13-month ago past. My Dish would go out more than a 17 year old beauty queen. I loved the DVR and all the trappings of the interface, but I just got so fed up with the outages, I am probably never going back to any satellite-based service.

In truth, my cable provider’s hi-def is of superior quality to boot.

Sorry to bring you down, I just wanted to chime in from the point of view of a former Dish subscriber.

Yes. For several hours. We unplugged everything to “reboot”. Then clicked on the guide and now watching local channels. If you try to watch other channels it will go to the loss of service screen.

http://www.9news.com/money/219080/344/DISH-Network-says-signal-problems-will-be-fixed-by-Wed-morning
DENVER - DISH Network says it does not expect to be able to solve its signal problem with several channels until Wednesday morning. DISH says there is an outage for many of its HD channels, including KUSA and KTVD, due to a “satellite anomaly.” DISH says it is working to restore the channels overnight and expects to have them operational by Wednesday morning.

DISH says many customers can watch the channels in SD instead of HD while the problem is being resolved. To do that, customers can unplug their receiver from the main power source and plug it back in to see the SD channels.

Folks at home use an OTA antenna. They get 36 channels - dish has 999 bazillion channels and nothing to watch.

Well, and what’s wrong with saying that Obama is a puffter?

1. He is, so it’s true.

2. Puffters are a protected species under the rules of politically correct multiculturalism. It’s hateful to speak critically about them.

3. So, are they implying that it would be WRONG of Obama to be a puffter? That sounds like hate speech to me. They should turn themselves in for re-education camp.

A friend of ours loaned us his receiver for a week. We spent the next two evenings just surfing through all the channels. Nothing. People say well there’s the History and Discovery channel. We’ve found them to be disingenuous and very Liberal in their programming. Okay so there was ESPN - but you don’t need all that for one channel. The family decided on an OTA antenna. We get 36 channels in HD from the Seattle area. Still just two or three channels worth watching. But then, it’s free. Can’t complain.

I read where some are bundling favorites. But the problem is that you might have a favorite in another bundle so you’d have to pay for that one too just for the one channel.

I believe the rumor is that all Dish channels are to be replaced overnight by the BO network: all Obama, all the time. I believe it was a mandate from Dear Leader himself. To make the new content appear to be appealling, they are going to broadcast pure static for 12 hours beforehand.

People look to where they can cut back and the first place is cable or dish - some charges are over a hundred dollars per month.

Rumors are that Dish recently performed an upgrade and some of the new equipment failed already. So, they’ve been taking Sats out of service to replace the new stuff with the old stuff. Chinese made, of course. Ours (Atl So) was out for about 3 hours late afternoon to early evening. All is great again.

I’ve always had problems doing that or trying to do it anyways. lol So I resorted to doing it my own way.

I have 3 sets on Dish. One of them has a PC connected to it, and a shared 1 TB hard drive. All wireless. I use VLC to stream from the shared hard drive to any connected PC. Which is nice since we have a PC or Laptop in every room. Of course, I can burn the content and play it on either of the other TV sets in the house, as well. Very reliable.

TV sucks.

No surprise. It went from local markets to cable to home dishes faster than anyone could stuff all that bandwidth with anything worth watching. There is probably enough relatively good programming out there for a half-dozen channels, scattered among 200+, unless you are into sports heavily, and then it cycles every few hours and repeats.

Frankly, I couldn't care less about people who get paid huge sums of money for bouncing, throwing, or hitting a ball, so I just keep a little better than basic cable to see the odd movie. Most of what is on cable is dreck, too.

That’s not the case nationwide with those who get much of their HD from the 129 satellite.

129w is currently having issues but should be resolved by Wednesday.

And for all of you that complained about “rain fade” on your sat setup, you dish wasn’t peaked correctly.

Most of these installers are paid by the job, so if they get a decent signal, they tighten down the dish and don’t peak it properly for an optimal signal.

Remember, that dish is catching a signal from a sat 22,500 miles away, and if the mounting post is not 100% plumb, and the Dish not 100% aligned, you will get rain fade.

I’ve subbed to both providers over the past 15 years and only lost signal for a few minutes in a massive hail storm.

If you’re losing your signal in rain, even heavy rain, your dish is not correctly peaked.

I can install and aim a dish just by looking at the position of the Sun.

That's a good point about all the time to fill. Plus you remember when cable first came out? Wasn't it commercial free? That was part of the point of paying for it. It had no commercials, it was unedited, and you got movies you couldn't get elsewhere.

Now, it has commercials but you still pay for it, the movies are often times edited for television, and you can get the same movies elsewhere.

That's why I cancelled my tv a couple years back. It's worthless. I pay 8.99 for netflix streaming, and if there's a new movie I want to see (very rare), I go to redbox.
