A violent night in San Francisco left one man dead in the Sunset District and several more wounded in separate incidents, including two bystanders who were hit by stray bullets after police opened fire on a suspect in North Beach.
Police officials said officers noticed a suspect in the 400 block of Broadway at 2:06 a.m. Saturday. The man ran away and pulled out a semi-automatic pistol, and police fire multiple shots in his direction, according to San Francisco police Lt. Troy Dangerfield.
"In the process, the suspect was not hit," Dangerfield said. "There were two other people who were hit, one in the lower leg and one in the thigh."
The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Jesus Paredes Rodriguez. Dangerfield said one of the two bystanders, whose names were not released, left the hospital this afternoon. The other was still in San Francisco General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The officers were on foot patrol and noticed the suspect making a narcotics transaction, Dangerfield said. The suspect's firearm was loaded, but was not discharged. Dangerfield didn't have details on how close the officers were to the bystanders. North Beach is often busy in that area in the early morning hours, when people are exiting bars.

No dogs were hurt in the making of this story...
multiple shots by police and only ones hit were bystanders....hhmmmmmm. That’s not good. How do they know the suspects firearm was loaded if it didn’t discharge? The whole story sounds goofy
Yes, it appears the cops screwed up and pretty much need lots of firearms training.
But - “Jesus Paredes Rodriguez” as the perp??
Someone else has gotta be thinkin’ what I’m thinkin’.
How’s that hopey changy amnesty working out there, Obamabutt?
such is life in a sanctuary city
shoulda aimed lower
What? They don’t like musicals? What’s New York City going to do about this? I say send the cast from the CATS revival out there to San Francisco and parade down the streets in costume flipping people off and mooning the police. Yeah, you’re right. That would just be another day in San Francisco.
Jesus Paredes Rodriguez was not shoot but two others were.
We need to know the names of those shot.
Does the lieutenant get any respect?
The shooting victims will be charged with obstruction of justice and billed for the cost of the bullets.
Cops didn’t shoot any pet dogs or cats so I’m fine with what went down.
I guess Troy gave an accurate account given the bystander wounding, but I would have thought -
...and police fire multiple shots at the suspect...
- would have been better...
... when, but only when, one is a police officer.
Maybe these cops decided there are no friendlies left in the city.
Typical shoot-and-miss technique from the police.
That never used to happen with Inspector Callahan...
Dammit Callahan, I just got off the phone with the mayor . . .
