In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
prepradial \pree-PRAN-dee-ul\ - adjective
of, relating to, or suitable for the time just before dinner
Although dinner was served late, the preprandial conversation was so diverting that no one minded.
Extra Example sentence:
"Churchill celebrated Christmas with the Roosevelts, took part in FDR's preprandial cocktail hours, shared most meals with the president, and, to Eleanor Roosevelt's great dismay, kept her husband up until the early hours each morning, drinking brandy, puffing cigars, and talking endlessly about everything." -- From Lynne Olson's 2010 book Citizens of London
Did you know?
Though the Latin noun "prandium" means "late breakfast" or "luncheon," its derivative English adjectives -- "preprandial," "prandial," and "postprandial" -- are just as likely to refer to other meals; in fact, "preprandial" is usually applied to dinner. Those adjectives were quite new in our language ("prandial" and "postprandial" first appeared in print in 1820, and "preprandial" in 1822) when a Scottish judge wrote in his memoirs, "Every glass during dinner required to be dedicated to the health of some one.... This prandial nuisance was horrible." English also acquired the adverbs "prandially" and "postprandially," but those are much rarer words these days.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Here is my example with today's WFTD:
A little Tony Bennett for your prepradial entertainment should help you lose weight by destroying your appetite.
AUDIO: Tony Bennett: We Caused the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks
(He may have left his heart in San Francisco, but he left his mind up somebody's butt.)
No pushing at the door please!
Happy Humpday Everybody!
Only days left until BO's replacement is sworn in.
Get to class you slackers! I've opened a new classroom, but Dave forgot to get the gradebook from xsmommy. So if you're looking for a grade you'll have to ping her. Secret Garden and Tioga are usually pretty generous with the plusses if you compliment their shapely legs, so you might try submitting your homework to them instead. My secret for getting extra plusses on my A+ from xs will remain a secret between me and her, so you're on your own if you want her to review your work.
buenas dias mi cherida.
Preprandial! Now spelled with an “n”!
Like mother, like daughter : ) right down to the PMS.
cherida? there’s a new twist, is that franol? ; )
It’s preprandial with an N. Prepradial is what you do when you’re fixing to change a tire on yer monster truck. You prep the radial.
probably so. I mangle my french and spanish all the time. When the little mexican kids looked at me funny I would generally realize I had just created a new word.
Ma cheri (french) and Mi querida (spanish) get mangled into Mi cherida.
that’s what i figured : )
Obama’s choice of prepradial conversation concerning the details of his intimate relationship with Michelle was enough to spoil the appetite of everyone attending the State Dinner.
In English, “My Sharona”
Obama’s The One, thinks he’s primordial
Speaks today before dinner, preprandial
With no teleprompter help
He’d just stutter and yelp
He prefers to speak pre-recordial
A lovely word. But no mention in the FDR story of Mrs. Nesbit. Mrs. Nesbit was FDR’s White House housekeeper who served the worst food in the nation. Churchill hated her!
Best tweet of the game: Semin had better ice bedazzled to his pants.
best recent tweet was from one of the “buddies” saying
“i have 5 days to lose ten pounds before having my picture taken with sasha” ROR! This weekend is the Caps convention. Paula and i are going to go with xsgirls. i want to be there when Sasha is posing for pic with him, to see if he is squeezing sasha’s behind in the pic!
Maybe it’s a variation of “querida” only with a fruity twist (no insult intended—I tend to think of everything in terms of food—you know, how alcoholics give directions using bars as reference points—my directions involve restaurants, taco stands, etc.)
oh yum, tacos!! can you tell i’m dieting? so every food reference sounds yummy to me! LOL!
BTW, what’s franol? Sounds like engine lubricant.
if i knew how to do a tilde, i would have put it over the n. Franol would be french and espanol hybrid, Cheri combined with Querida.
Wow, I forgot what you call a tilde. I think you can get it by pulling up characters. I don’t remember how to do an umlaut (sp), either. Haven’t thought about that in years. Oh well, anyway, muchissimas calcetines grandes para ti y su familia! (Customary parting benediction.)
many big stockings to you too! LOL!
There are those of us who not only mangle Spanish, we chop it up and pour soy sauce all over it. (Here we go with the food references again.) Garcias and buenos dias!
Yes, I saw that. Funny. Oblivious.
xsjr just asked me that very thing on the way in, in the car this AM, will he be unemployed when he loses? i said he sure will!
Those annoying phone calls from vendors and solicitors who dial your home while you’re preparing dinner are hardly preprandial...
for some reason, this made me smile.
And it's the day/week from hell.
Perhaps the loony troll and the leprechaun are your ticket ; )
Sorry about the bad week
She said she got right up in his face too. I lmao.
DK is a deal breaker for me...
All right, damnit-that was an uncalled-for earqworm that caused me to dig out the CD of the Knack and play it while I freep!
Let’s make that “earworm”, okay?
Gotta play the album version with the jam session in the middle, not the single version.
The preprandial conversation by
The Obamas must be a trip-
With staff hanging on every word
Hoping for a little slip
Perhaps a snipe from Michelle
To set some ears on fire-
An incriminating tidbit to sell
To the National Enquirer
Or maybe even fast and furious words-
The press could hardly wait-
That staffer would get a king’s ransom
For opening the next Watergate...
The single version is on my album, not the one you are referring to.
I never understood the mentality of radio people who figured a song would be more popular if they removed an instrumental bridge or coda.
Oh, my album has the instrumental bridge that changes tempo three or so times, but that is not the long, long original one that goes on for several minutes and is practically a piece in itself-I haven’t heard that version in years.
OMG OMG OMG OMG...........I forgot to turn on GB and that fox at five show is killing me.....now I have forgotten my password.......egads. what a day.
