There's a Super 88 at the end of my street. Smells like the biggest Eel in the world died there and has a concrete floor. I will happily stand in line with my Dungeoness Crabs and a real unfrozen Duck any time. The Pork Loin has the thick skin on it. Very crispy! I did a review of it for The Sampan. Over half the people shopping there were not Asian. They had a lot of things that the old Italian neighborhood stores that disappeared when the Stop and Shops moved in use to have. But made a resurgence as high priced “Peasant Food”.

Who knew that cut flowers could be used in such an insidious manner?

I love WF I can get in and out in less time than big stores. The one where I shop is small and I don’t have to waste time reading labels because their stuff doesn’t contain the crapola that I am allergic to. I do NOT go there for the organic vegetables and the meat is excellent.

My favorite supermarket is Wegman’s, a regional company. Yes, the dairy section is in the back. But they also have a refrigerated section up front by the checkout stations where you can get milk, eggs and bread if you just want to run in and get the basics.

If Wegman’s is using me, I’m a very willing participant. Great prices, great items, great produce and everyone is helpful and polite.

Hey the Craft Beer and Cheese sections of Whole Foods is awesome. Hey just because hippies shop there doesn't mean everything in the place has to be good for you.

On the other hand it is expensive. So unless I happen to have money to burn I'm usually shopping at Food for Less down the street.

Stew Leonard’s is more fun than Whole Foods - they have robot cows & chickens that sing!

I heard Stalin used placements of fresh flowers in the Gulag to terrify new arrivals into abject obedience.

I love Walmart, but not for their products. There are a few things I get there (Ramen is Ramen wherever you buy it), but I just like to go there to check out the other Walmart shoppers. Kinda like crowd-watching at a sidewalk cafe but doing it at a trailer park instead...8)

You could go nuts in Stew Leonard’s it’s so loud.
You can also skip lunch if you time it right, there’s so much to sample.
But I did love it and still have a plastic bag from there as a keepsake.

My husband likes their cheese curls. I like their soda bread from Zingerman's deli. It's really just a scone on steroids*.

*probably a Whole Foods no-no

I’ve read that Wegman’s is the best supermarket chain in the US.

Never been in one and sadly none around here.

Whole Foods has primo food at primo prices. We do some shopping there occasionally.
They’re always packed w/ customers, so there is money out there.

I like Whole Foods as well. Don’t use them routinely because it is out of the way for me to get to but when I want something upscale or top quality, that’s the single stop place to go for me.

A couple of years ago, I went there early on a Saturday morning and it was while the store was still pretty slow. My goal was simply to buy a bottle of wine, some cheese and some bread. The mood hit me, what can I say. LOL!

Bought the wine then went to check out the cheeses. My eyes glazed over on what to get so asked the girl behind the counter for advice on what to get with the vino I had chosen and was offered a couple of samples. Next though, she said you really can’t make the best selection without having wine during the cheese sampling so produced a bottle of vino from behind the counter and poured us both a plastic glass full. Vino cheese, vino cheese. Ended up buying probably twice as much cheese as I had in mind but what the heck! Great Marketing!

Kind of like Wal-Mart’s thinking that by piling more crap in the aisles in trying to slow me down and then stall me from getting out of the store with the long checkout lines in trying to get me to waste more money on useless crap, they have something else coming and make me determined to only buy what I need and get the h3!! out !
