Leslie Rosario and Jessamine Roman have filed suit against the Ridgefield Park Police Department, claiming that an officer assaulted Rosario when she refused to hand over her cell phone at a DWI checkpoint. The Record reports that Rosario filmed the stop as the car's driver, Juan Calle, was being administered a sobriety test:

Cops can’t be filmed, because that will distract them from their work.. In fact, even looking at the cops should be a criminal offence. /s

Cars need to be equipped with hidden cameras.

Cops can’t confiscate what they can’t see or don’t know about.

that will distract them from their work.

I'm starting to wonder, what IS their work? Collecting revenue? Harassing people? Time after time, judges rule that there is no presumption of privacy in public places. This applies to law enforcement officers as well.

I’m sure the Officer will be disciplined, even dismissed. As well he should be, but to kick all police officers for this idiots mistake is just asinine.

It is absolutely critical that people be able to film a defendant in a field sobriety test.

These tests are very subjective but they allow the officer to make claims that a defendant was impaired at the time based on his “training and certification” to discern impairment.

A video record allows a jury to get a reality check on the officers in the field determination of impairment.

In a few states, the standard is not Driving While Intoxicated, it is Driving While Impaired and the standard for impairment is a subjective “impaired to the slightest degree”, not a quantitative BAL or Drug intoxication level.

Let’s have another big round of applause for these upstanding servants of the state that we call cops. And for their worshipers, too.
Cops go out there and put their lives on the line. It’s a job almost as risky as a carpenter or farmer!

So...what's the part in the Constitution they don't give a sh!t about? Oh yeah, this part:

'The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated...'

Unfortunately, for some time, under the guise of protecting national security, law enforcement officers have been morphing into government enforcers.

Other than armed resistance, the only real weapon the citizen has is the power of public exposure (forget about the courts, they are hardly protectors of Constitutional rights).

This is why states have sunshine laws. And why various levels of governments around the country are working hard to avoid complying with these sunshine laws. It’s more difficult to abuse the rights of the people when you are exposed to the public eye.

Remember, to those that desire to rule us, the guilt is not in the doing....it is in the getting caught.

Very simple why the cops don’t want to be video taped.

They can be held to the rule of law if they do not control the evidence.

Hard for the ‘fetid blue line’ to circle the wagons if they cannot control all the evidence.

Bullies & sadists the whole lot, IMHO.

Me thinks you have your numbers somewhat askew. A cop hater reveals himself eventually, as you have done.

You are a bit overboard on this statement. Law enforcement personnel put their lives on the line every day. Some are heroes and some are scum. They mirror the society they spring from. Your comparison to a farmer or carpenter is utterly ridiculous. Stick to the subject and discuss those LE that abuse their authority and have the decency to praise those who serve well. And by the way screw you and the horse you rode in on.

Indeed, but it’s a tedious thing to point out for each offense that gets reported.

I’ll go out on a limb and say the vast majority of folks are cool even though too many still march along with the idiots.

I believe the scorn is warranted, but it should be directed at the system.

I’d rather see a force 1/4 the size with triple pay, and without the privileges that guarantee early retirement, obscene pensions, and employment protection. The real problems in our Country could be solved with fewer, smarter, highly skilled, well paid professionals. And professionals that would be held to the strictest sense of the Constitution.

Society shouldn’t have its hand held by the massive force of statism.

All of the above. The police are enforcers of the status quo, period..

They mirror the society they spring from.

Then that's a big part of the problem, isn't it.

The police are not supposed to mirror society, they're supposed to be better than society. Now, perhaps, it's a result of affirmative action or just our general lowering of standards, but police malpractice (for lack of a better word) is becoming a nationwide problem.

It's fine to defend the good ones, but the mere fact that you have to says a lot.

As the government grows and gets more oppressive and out of hand, it’s no surprise that their armed enforcers are becoming less respectful of citizens, their rights and property.

The two woman have requested that the Ridgefield Park PD release video from the police car camera and the jail. According to a representative for the police department, there's no video to release, as neither Ridgefield cop cars nor the jail have video cameras.
