Also I object to people who react to animal deaths MORE strongly than to crimes against humans.

Where on FR have you seen that?

And again, it isn't animal deaths, but animal CRUELTY that is objected to.

“Like it or not, at some point this man deserves credit for paying the penalty...”

So now we’re supposed to give Brownie points to some man who got caught torturing helpless animals? He didn’t VOLUNTEER to go to prison, he was sentenced to it.

“What are we supposed to do, burst into tears at news of his injury?”

Oh...no, I was happy that he broke his hand, I only wish it had been his ACL, but it is because I am a Cowboys fan, and I want nothing but bad things to happen to the eagles, giants, and redskins.

“Yeah, because most ex felons are simply looking for an honest line of work, right?”

I have known dozens of felons over the years and most have been decent people who screwed up in their past, usually with drugs, and yes, I believe most felons ARE simply looking for honest work, especially if they’re 40+ years old.

If a person committed a felony and 20+ years later it is still being held against them, I find that unfair and wrong. If a person commits a crime, send him/her to jail. Once he/she serves their time, they have paid their debt to society, and it should no longer be held against them, at all. They should be able to vote, to own a gun, and to be a normal citizen, once they have served their time.

I find my position logical and fair.

The NFL should not allow anyone with a criminal record to play.

who'd be left to play then? could they even fill ONE entire roster?

Of course they could. It’s the thugs that get the publicity.

It's an old study, but it means that more than 20% of the NFL wouldn't be allowed to play. And we're talking some murders, rapes, and kidnappings among the crimes.

I am quite sure that others would be glad to step into those spaces and earn millions of dollars a year. The sport might change a bit, but for the better.

I'm sure you are right. I'm certainly not trying to give the NFL players with criminal records any special treatment. I found the report through Google after reading your post and thinking "hmmmm . . . interesting point . . . I wonder if anybody's answered that question . . . ". I only ended up on this thread to read the Michael Vick/dog-fighting comments.

The last NFL game I saw was the Super Bowl when New England was trying to match the Dolphins' record of an undefeated season. Before that . . . I think it was Jerry Kramer delivering a block so that Bart Starr could score against the Cowboys. I'm not what you would call a fan of the NFL or the NBA.

I may be wrong, but I believe that a criminal free NFL might result in better play, less career killing injuries and less drama.

Before Belichick, we had teams that were full of thugs and creeps. One might criticize him for other reasons, but he cleaned out many of the worst.
