Eliminate the National Debt by Ending the Flood Insurance Program (/snarc)

Whether you believe that man has ruined the earth’s climate or not we can all agree that Washington’s bickering about emergency FEMA funding does nothing to fight the effects of global climate change.

According to the New York Times, Hurricane Irene earlier this year was the first US catastrophe of the Obama administration to make the top 10 list, joining the insurmountable Bush catastrophes of Katrina and 911. Climate experts Bill McKibben and Al Gore agree that Obama has failed with only half hearted efforts to reverse the rising oceans.

A search at usaspending.gov (Sponsored by Senator Obama under the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006) reveals the government has spent over $14 trillion from 2000 to 2011 on flood insurance.

If we cannot stop the rising waters then I say it is time to stop bailing out Citizens who live on costal lands or floodplains. If people would just take responsibility to insure themselves against a danger we have know since the beginning of recorded history we would have no national debt today!

How about instead, quit paying the ones that collect, collect, and collect, and raise the premiums for the rest of us.

The government shouldn’t be in the personal salvation business.

My insurance paid when trees fell on my house. Twice was plenty and I called a tree removal service and had 6 more removed.

I am refinancing my condo I have lieved in for 7 years and have had a mortgage on.

the condo was built in the 80;s and NEVER was in a flood zone, albeit it is on the river. Out of nowhere, the bank sent me notice, get flood ins or we will get it for you.

Or I could get a review from FEMA...which would take at least 6 months.

They put 1300 dollars on my mortgage claiming my ins company ( where I got my own flood ins for $600) didn’t get them the proof. (MY condo assoc —14 condos — refused to get ins for the whole bldg cause we never had the need and most of the owners don’t have a mortgage.

Then it took me over a month to get the $1300 bank ins company “policy” off and get my money back. Here ensued countles 3 way calls with my insurance agent with such responses as “Oh that wasn’t the right fax number to fax it to us” or “OH, it will take 15 days to process this.”...on and on and on.

It is a scam the banks are running..they got one of my neighbors for $3200...

And its all LEGAL.

I’m in a flood plain that didn’t exist a couple years ago.

My congressman (Tim Walberg) has been working on stopping the FEMA floodplain insurance mandate.

Tell your congressman to GO FOR IT!

I am still furious...I finally got them to refund my money when I listed all the Federal and state agencies I would be contacting.they just didn’t want the hassle.

Its a legal scam.
