Pop Up That Won't Go Away
09.29.11 | Chickensoup

I have this constantly popping network popup that wont go away. I cannot find it on my computer but every minute or two it pops up asking me to do something with the network password. I have had thoughts of what I would like to do with it, but not approptiate for this board.

I do not have accounts anymore at hostmonster, a child signed me up, did not know until last week that I had been paying for them since 2009. They were never activated. Have kid for sale too.

It says ENTER NETWORK PASSWORD server: host385.hostmonster.com user: an email address of mine password: ****************

OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER...

I don't really want to have to buy a new computer or anything over this.

Would anyone be able to tell me how to make this go away?

It's most likely not a virus.

Agreed. Sounds like this was installed by somebody voluntarily. I'd think that no malware scanning is going to help in this case. Since they were paying for it for years, a system restore isn't going to help either.

Gotta be a startup program in msconfig or installed as "automatic" in "services.msc".

Thank you. I do use Microsoft Security Essentials now & I can’t believe how much faster my computer runs. So far, so good.

Here is a support article from hostmonster that may help titled Password Protected Folder Gives Continual Prompts. Maybe there is a webfolder on your desktop, under "network places", or under "my computer" that is linked to some sort of hostmonster cloud-based folder.

Not a virus folks. Had to delete one of the email addresses to my website that was pointed instead to hostmonster. I will need to get it repointed to the correct server, Experthost.

I believe if you have that for more than four hours, you are supposed to seek medical attention.

That is funny, even on a bad day!

If you are running WinXp, take note of when it appeared. Then reboot PC into Safe Mode (hold down F5 as system boots).

Then in Safe Mode, run System Restore and select a restore point that is before the time of the infection. It might work.
