Is is just me that's experiencing the problem, or are others being blocked by Websense?
I can't use Yahoo e-mail, or Hotmail.
A message appears saying that,
"Content blocked by your organization"
"This Websense category is filtered: General Email"
I haven't changed anything on my computers or my email settings. However, this problem occurs on my XP box and not on my Windows 7 machine.

What’s Websense? We dropped Yahoo last year.
Is this a work computer or connection? Companies use Websense to filter content that their employees can access and the administrator can change the settings to limit certain sites.
I find it kind of surprising that you can get to FR but not various mail websites.
My hotmail has blocked for three days now and I’ve tried everything they tell me to do to get a code or reset my password. what’s going on?
I had e-mails filtered by Yahoo/ATT beginning several years ago.
Received a message back not to resend my e-mail that it “was being held for testing”.
I responded to that message with “Tested for what and by whom?”. No response. For a long time I could not send e-mails to anyone using a Yahoo e-mail account if I had an attachment on it. (that included my daughter).
They are very arbitrary about what they filter. My mistake was to send a copy of a screen capture of a Technorati search that displeased a POL. Nothing illegal, nothing profane, nothing porno, nothing but the search results.
It sucks.
Is your problem related to Websense too?
Websense is a filter that categorizes websites so that sys admins can block web access on their networks.
Sys admins usually block email access to prevent staff from downloading attachments with viruses.
You mentioned it affecting one machine, but not another. Are these on the same network?
Websense is usually applied via a proxy, a device your connection to the internet is routed through to help prevent access to your local network, scan for viruses, and in your case limit web connectivity so that staff are working instead of surfing.

My company uses Websense. I can access FR from there, but there are a lot of sites that are blocked. A lot of blogs are unreachable from work. They also block all webmail at our company (Hotmail, Gmail, etc.).
Both machines are for personal use.
Nothing at all to do with business.
Who is your ISP? Dial-up? Major commercial like a cable company?

I Googled Websense. They’ve had some problems with their filtering software from the gitgo. :)

Working on an oil rig is some tough stuff. When hubby and I first moved to California he got a job driving a vacuum truck servicing drilling rigs in Kern County. I’ve seen rigs and guys that work on ‘em up close and personal.
I would imagine that’s pretty dirty, hot and hard work... for sure.
It is. You get that sticky, yucky stuff from head to toe when it’s 115 in the shade.....I don’t know how they do it.
Folks, I figured it out.
It seems, that for the first time in years, my PCs, two of them, decided to pick up a new wi-fi connection from somebody that must’ve just moved into the neighborhood, and it seems that their connection is for work purposes and has a bunch of sites being blocked. That ISP is not the same as mine, and I decided to push that connection all the way to the bottom of the preferred connections sequence, and now, my PCs are working as they should. The people using that “work” connection don’t have their connections secured and my PCs, for some reason, “decided” to connect to that unsecured wi-fi automatically.
This will happen when you visit too many porn sites.
