The two most meaningless words in Hollywood today are "spoiler alert."
Movie critics traditionally use the words before revealing a particular scene or action while writing a review. It's a considerate thing to do, but hardly necessary in the gutless climate that now pervades the selling of movies.
There is nothing for critics to spoil anymore. Everything is revealed.

Last “modern” movie I watched was that Monkey movie Planet of the apes 2011....poor. Glad I watched it on the net before I plunked down money in a theater.
Awwww, poor hollyweird. They get to make 15 million instead of 20 millions because of “spoilers”?
Perhaps if they made an actual GOOD movie, people would flock to see it.
These days I just download instead of going. It’s too expensive and often the same plot after another. No point in bothering with spending that sort of money anymore. entertainers are overpaid anyway and studios, with the money they spend on entertainers, could be spent on better writers. If they gave writers a fraction of what they give actors, there would surely be better plots.
IDK.. With the advances in home theater many people have screens LARGER than the theater now. With out the 9 dollar popcorn 5 dollar soda, kids that won’t shut up and no screaming babies.
I just don’t know why anyone would go to a movie theater anymore.
That’s the problem really, a lack of interesting plots. If Hollywood made any sense, it would give awards to movies like “Apocalypto” and “Passion of the Christ” and with the budgets of those movies, the studios would be making hand over fist. Entertainers should be paid in a profit sharing method, not a fat salary like the ones they are getting now. If they got paid as much as the movies make, they would be putting in a better performance.
I own Passion of the Christ and have watched it several times. I cry and mute at each and every scene I cannot bear to watch or listen to (his whipping).
But I keep watching it. As much as it distresses me, it also uplifts me. It is one of my favorites.
Same as Independence Day.
I really do hate it when the trailer shows the "funny" lines in a movie. And when I go see it it turns out those are the ONLY funny lines.
Go to Netflix and rent the German "Lives of Others" and "Counterfeiters" or the Scandinavian "Inheritance" or "After the Wedding" and tell me I am wrong.
Unfortunately, I don’t have that luxury. I am one of the “icky statically underemployed” (they cut all our hours so they wouldn’t have to fire 1 person.)
Although, one good thing is I don’t have children (2 crazy cats) but no kids.
The last movie I went to was I believe “The Orphan”. My bff took me to it as a b-day present. SUCKY!!!! We laughed all the way home screaming out the windows about how sucky it was.
Now with all the bedbugs lurking, I don’t want to step foot in a movie theater, let alone the creeps who sit behind your seat, waiting for you to put your pocketbook on the ground so they can steal it.
An easy solution: stop watching the Hollywood trash. Then no one will be able to “spoil” it for you.

House of Sand and Fog.

Soon, Behrani, a boastful, greedy emigrant Iranian snaps up the house for a ridiculous sum with the intention of reselling it and making a bundle.
(Typical of his ‘religion’, he beats his wife and tells Kathy that in his country she would not be fit to look upon him)
He and his family move into the house only to find that the woman, Kathy, and her new friend, the deputy, aren’t giving up her house so easily.
The once prosperous colonel denies Kathy’s crying and pleas
to do the right thing, for he knows his recent purchase promises a profitable return and a better future for his adolescent son and extravagant wife.
Things spiral out of control and end tragically for all who want the House of Sand and Fog.
Great movie.

Thanks for those recommendations. “Counterfeiters” seems taken from the same historical setting as the British series “PPrivate Schultz” — which put a more comical/ridiculous spin on the circumstances.
Funny that you mention that... I just saw a trailer for the remake of the remake of “The Thing!”
There was the original (with James Arness as “The Thing.”) Then there was the remake with Kurt Russel. And now there’s a new one, in case the first two weren’t good enough.
It reminds me of the remake of “Psycho.” I guess the producers figured that they couldn’t improve on the script or directing, so they “re-shot” the movie exactly, with the exception of the sets, stars, and the fact the remake was in color.

I rarely go to movies anymore. I just wait and pick up the DVD as used at the local book/dvd/music store. Most are a couple bucks, if you wait them out, and the Hollywood pukes don’t get royalties off used DVDs.
I hate all the reamkes, because they usually suck. I’m currently really liking the tv show “Sons of Anarchy”. “Tru Blood” is based on a book, but has wandered so far off the reservation, I watch it now for the “WTF?” aspect of it.
The “twists” in movies aren’t surprising now, just cliche. I even figured out the ending to The 6th Sense about 15 minutes into it.
Most movies are so shallow these days, the trailer is all you need to see.
