Warren Buffett Says He Will Release His Tax Returns If Rupert Murdoch Does (First shots fired)
Business Insider ^ | 10/04/2011 | Zeke Miller

Pressed by House Republicans and the Wall Street Journal editorial board to release a copy of his tax returns to justify the so-called "Buffett tax," the Oracle of Omaha said he would comply if News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch did the same.

"I think it might be a terrific idea if they would just ask their boss, Rupert Murdoch, and he and I will meet at Fortune, and we'll both give you our tax returns and you can publish them," Buffett told Fortune's Carol Loomis.

"I'm ready tomorrow morning," he said.

In a New York Times column, Buffett asked Congress to raise his taxes, saying he paid a higher effective tax rate than his secretary. President Barack Obama then included the tax — which would make certain that those with incomes over $1 million pay the same effective tax rate as the average middle class family — in his deficit reduction plan.

Buffett has become a campaign surrogate of Obama's, most recently hosting a fundraiser for the President in New York.

Murdoch needs to respond to Buffoon by saying he’ll release his returns only if Roseanne Barr releases her returns. This could be fun.

Well if we're into releasing things, I'll release my college records if Zero will release his.

I'm guessing there's not much chance of me having to embarrass myself.

Nothing stopping these rich folks from writing a check.

I believe Rockefeller wrote a check in the depression years which paid off the national debt.

Buffet doesn’t even want any “Buffet Tax”...

CNBC: “Let’s talk about the Buffett Rule for a moment.”

Buffett: “Uh-huh.”

CNBC: “Talk to you about how it came about in terms of the White House getting in touch with you and you putting your name to this.”

Buffett: “Well Gene Sperling called and said ‘can we use your name’ and I said ‘yes.’”

CNBC: “Are you happy you said ‘yes?’”

Buffett: “Sure. I mean I wrote about it.”

CNBC: “Are you happy that the way it is being described. Is the program that the White House has presented a million dollars and over your program? “

Buffett: “Well, the precise program which will — I don’t know what their program will be. My program would be on the very high incomes that are taxed very low. Not just high incomes. Somebody making $50 million a year playing baseball, his taxes won’t change. Make $50 million a year appearing on television, his income won’t change. But, if they make a lot of money and they pay a very low tax rate, like me, it would be changed by a minimum tax that would only bring them up to what the other people pay.”

CNBC: “Does that mean you disagree with the president’s new jobs proposal which would be paid for by raising taxes on households with incomes of over $250,000?”

Buffett: “That’s another program that I won’t be discussing. My program is to have a tax on ultra-rich people who are paying very low tax rates. Not just all the rich people. It would probably apply to 50,000 people in a population of 300 million.”

CNBC: “So that means you disagree with the president on the $250,000?”

Buffett: “No, no. You may disagree with him.”

CNBC: “So you agree, $250,000 is the right number?”

Buffett: “I will look at the overall plan that gets submitted to Congress, and which they are voting on, and decide net, “do I like it or do I not like it”. There is no question, there will be parts I’ll disagree with.”

CNBC: “And are you a supporter of his jobs program right now?”

Buffett: “I am supporter of the action he is trying to get the Congress to join him in taking to really do something, rather than sit there and go in different directions.”

CNBC: “Do you agree with all the details?”

Buffett: “I haven’t looked at all the details.”

CNBC: “Ok, fair enough.”

According to Forbes, Warren Buffet is worth $50 Billion while Rupert Murdoch is about 7 times ‘poorer’ at a net worth of ‘just’ $7.6 Billion.

Just info for anyone interested to know.

How Forbes comes up with these figure is something I’d like to know...

You are 100% correct. I missed "just a few words" from the statement by George Wills...which he repeated this past Sunday.

Buffett knows that as an owner of broadcast outlets Murdoch is subject to a lot of regulations.

If Rupert releases his tax returns somebody somewhere will use the information to fuel a campaign against him.

So what Warren's really saying is, "No, I won't release my tax returns, though I'll make it sound like a good faith offer to do so to the rubes and dupes."

That "stupid senile old fart" is dumb as a fox. He knows how to give non-answers, evasive answers, high-sounding evil answers and sleight-of-hand-distraction answers.

He didn't get where he is by being stupid and not out-foxing his business marks.

And Obama wouldn't be using this multi-billionaire as a national spokesman if he thought the man was senile. Obama is no dummy, either. Both have street smarts along with their twisted ideologues.
