"Brain Drain or Birth Dirth?"

The assumption? Young adults are moving away from the region in large numbers due to the high cost of living, particularly housing prices. So, the story goes, the suburban pattern must be broken, and small, high density housing units must replace detached, single-family homes as the dominant urban form if young adults are to be retained.

This is an interesting analysis defending suburbs against elite critics.

Are you sure the headline didn't read "Birth Dearth?"

The site says "Dearth" now. I don't know if it ever said Dirth. www.lucianne.com had the same misspelling in their Google search, but the article isn't at the Google link anymore.

And now everyone will be so caught up in the spelling error that the actual content of the article is going to be completely lost. :-p

Why don’t you have the mods fix it?

One thing that is curious, there are colleges in Long Island and Suffolk county. So, while 18-24 year olds might be leaving the area to attend college elsewhere, are the colleges that are in the area surveyed empty? Are they counting incoming 18-24 year olds going to college there?

They should try to get people to stay there -- like LOWERING TAXES. But these idoits want to say that doing away with single family homes would make people love it. I don't buy it.
