The GOP's New "Two-Man" Race?
The Huffington Zot ^ | 10/6/11 | STEWART J. LAWRENCE

Posted on 10/07/2011 10:11:55 PM PDT by jageorge72

"In fact, Gingrich's growing support among moderates, as well as some conservatives, is so large that he finishes second to Cain in all four states, a surge that's almost as impressive as Cain's."

"A "two-man" race? That's how many pundits described the Republican contest just a couple of weeks ago. But with Cain and Gingrich the only two GOP candidates rapidly increasing their voter support, it's no longer Romney and Perry who can claim that mantle."

What’s funny is that I didn’t notice her being ‘off’, until I looked at Newt!

I’d pick Romney. I don’t think Newt is fit for the office. I think he’d be dangerous. His ego is too large. His thinking is too grandiose. His character flaws too prevalent.

Newt’s not surging. This is pure propoganda. The progressive’s at HuffPo would love to run against Newt. Hence their spin.

Herman Cain is running for President. He's not a career politician (in fact he has never held political office). He's known as a ‘pizza guy’, but there's a lot more to him. He's also a computer guy, a banker guy, and a rocket scientist guy.
Here's his bio:

* Bachelor's degree in Mathematics.
* Master's degree in Computer Science.
* Mathematician for the Navy, where he worked on missile ballistics
(making him a rocket scientist).
* Computer systems analyst for Coca-Cola.
* VP of Corporate Data Systems and Services for Pillsbury (this is the
top of the ladder in the computer world, being in charge of information
systems for a major corporation).

All achieved before reaching the age of 35. Since he reached the top of the
information systems world, he changed careers!

* Business Manager. Took charge of Pillsbury's 400 Burger King
restaurants in the Philadelphia area, which were the company's poorest
performers in the country. Spent the first nine months learning the business
from the ground up, cooking hamburger and yes, cleaning toilets. After three
years he had turned them into the company's best performers.
* Godfather's Pizza CEO. Was asked by Pillsbury to take charge of
their Godfather's Pizza chain (which was on the verge of bankruptcy). He
made it profitable in 14 months.
* In 1988 he led a buyout of the Godfather's Pizza chain from
Pillsbury. He was now the owner of a restaurant chain. Again he reached the
top of the ladder of another industry.
* He was also chairman of the National Restaurant Association during
this time. This is a group that interacts with government on behalf of the
restaurant industry, and it gave him political experience from the
non-politician side.

Having reached the top of a second industry, he changed careers again!

* Adviser to the Federal Reserve System. Herman Cain went to work for
the Federal Reserve Banking System advising them on how monetary policy
changes would affect American businesses.
* Chairman of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank. He worked his way
up to the chairmanship of a regional Federal Reserve bank. This is only one
step below the chairmanship of the entire Federal Reserve System (the top
banking position in the country). This position allowed him to see how
monetary policy is made from the inside, and understand the political forces
that impact the monetary system.

After reaching the top of the banking industry, he changed careers for a
fourth time!

* Writer and public speaker. He then started to write and speak on
leadership. His books include Speak as a Leader, CEO of Self, Leadership is
Common Sense, and They Think You're Stupid.
* Radio Host. Around 2007-after a remarkable 40 year career-he started
hosting a radio show on WSB in Atlanta (the largest talk radio station in
the country).

He did all this starting from rock bottom (his father was a chauffeur and
his mother was a maid). When you add up his accomplishments in his
life-including reaching the top of three unrelated industries: information
systems, business management, and banking-Herman Cain may have the most
impressive resume of anyone that has run for the presidency in the last half
century.

He has also escaped from the Democratic plantation and is an inspiration for all America not just Americans of color.

Ok, all you “big hearted” libs, this is what our guy has done. What has yours done?

I think it was meant to discourage traffic to HuffPo liberal opinions. I disagree with their views, but I still take in the occasional story and decide to disagree for myself.

>> Perry was a big let-down.

I’ve been cool on Perry for years, but in comparison to that jackass, he’d be great.

Perry’s okay. He just needs to sharpen his blade.

Well, to be fair - Pat Paulsen didn’t really run for president...he was a comedian on The Smothers Brothers Show. That’s all.

My only concern about Cain

-no I am not a concern troll, I like the man and will certainly vote for him if he’s the nominee, may even vote for him in the primary -

is that it is easy to SAY all the right things, harder to do them.

Since he hasn’t actually held public office he can be quite the idealist and promise all we want to hear. I believe they are his sincerely held positions, too. But when reality hits and you are dealing with members of your own party and members of the other party and pressure from this problem and try to make deals and communicate to the American people and compromise responsibly or not compromise at all and risk no progress at all and ETC. . .

it’s a lot tougher.

I think Romney and Perry have a more seasoned place in my mind because I know how Cain will WANT to govern - I am just not certain he will be able to govern the way he wants to.

That’s Cain’s biggest negative, for me. Romney’s biggest is Romneycare. Perry’s biggest is his “heartless” comment - I don’t mind someone disagreeing with me but I do mind being called names.

Who to support? I don’t know, and I doubt it will all fall to me anyway.

Thank you for the synopsis of Mr. Cain's accomplishments. Since I do extensive research on all of the candidates..this is not “news” to me. I love Mr. Cain.
I hope he does well. I would have no problem voting for him.

The point I was trying to make, obviously not very well, is that Washington does not work like the corporate world. You or I could have supreme ideas that would be stalled in the legislature.

Not sure about your “big hearted libs” comment. I assume that is aimed at Perry.

He would have the same issues.

I'm focusing on retaining the House and gaining the Senate.

The Big hearted liberal is to the Democrats that say black people can't achieve anything on merit or through hard work and education. The Dems think blacks and other minorities have to make it with Affirmative action not Affirmative Opportunity

Interesting and thought provoking post.

They all want to govern in certain ways..but perhaps those that have been in politics know what can and can’t be done. Even The Won has been thwarted..to a small degree.

Truthfully, I would vote for my dog if he was running against Obama.

So.... why can’t you link to a Huffington Post article? I don’t typically read Huffington Post, and came across that article through another link. But..... c’mon..... banning articles from ANY site is lame.

That wasn’t me dude, I am not into playing God on the forum or playing the zot game or having people banned like some commie from the Obama regime. That was Dengar01.

All I stated was that I would prefer NOT to see the link article to Huffpo...that was Dengar01 that wanted the ban.

I'm in a bad mood right now, to the Admin_Moderator I promise to make it up to you somehow, like I told you JR, TheOldLady, onyx and our ZOT Team you guys are the best.

Now to max, why I say zot, I've been here for a long time, so has my FReeper of the month TheOldLady who is our ZOT Queen. It has been a long outstanding policy that we don't link the liberal sites. Even if libs heads are exploding at DU we just refer to them as DU we don't give direct links.

Like TheOldLady before attacking someone and flaming them I look at their posting history. This original poster's posts are all centered around Newt Gingrich. It is well known that there are paid operatives for candidates to come to sites like Free Republic and shill for their candidate.

Then there are FReepers like myself, onyx, TheOldLady, Virginia Ridgerunner and hundreds other who spot them out, and contact an Admin or JR.

We are not doing this to be "heartless". Jim Robinson told me himself that Google backs up everything posted here after a certain point.

I joined this site in 2001 before there was Herman Cain running or Newt or Romneybots and Perrybots I joined 4 days after my nation was attacked after being a long time lurker!!!

I decided I needed to throw my voice in the fray. Thanks to God we have Jim Robinson and his Moderators and WONDERFUL FReepers like onyx, Virginia Ridgerunner; DJ MacWow and TheOldLady to help this site on a non-moderator level.

I've been watching Ken Burn's "The Civil War" and it is people like VR, Onyx, DJ and TOL who are heroes for this website. We'd have no FR without them. They have backed me up in tough times and have stood their ground no matter what against all the foes we've dealt with!!! I'll never forget Kristinn going against Bill O'Reilly accusing us all of being racists for a thread where Kristinn, myself and others were bashing the racist (article by an Asian student bashing African Americans, it is late and Kristinn would know more about the issue since he was on the show, but he basically told O'Reilly to shove it and proved we are not some hate site). We are a site for like minded conservatives to come together and support fellow conservatives.

Everyone thought Myth Romney had this sucker in the bag and I truly believe due to FReepers especially my fellow Sarah fans who immediately got behind Cain after Sarah graciously bowed out is the reason Cain is running the show. I'd love to see Sarah as the VP, even though ya'll know I'd rather have her as the President!!!

Alright, well I have the flu, been up without sleep for 48 hours, don't know if it the anti-biotics, the symptoms or what.

But there are two people I want to personally thank for my past ten years on Free Republic.

Jim Robinson, for showing what a leader truly is! You have been blasted by such hateful evil despicable people that I wanted to unleash all my rage on them. You sir, are a genuine hero, I pray for you constantly and thank God for giving you to all of us.

Onyx, you are the glue that hold this family of FRiends together. We have had some rough times with frauds and PDS'ers but you have shown me incredible strength and wisdom. When I was bombed by trolls in May you were there supporting me and giving me kind words. You are what a true FReeper is.

Shoot and I have to give major props to all the Admin_Moderator's for dealing with my Whale War threads. I've known some have gotten out of control. Pan_Yan and I try and keep them contained but every so often you get a crazy, you guys have been above and beyond amazing to keep our threads running ORDERLY :)

Good night all :) Thanks again for the kind messages from my FRiends. I don't know who I would be as a person without Free Republic as my homepage... home for the last 10 years.

Thanks Jim, Admins, onyx, all the non haters :)

Thank you for the explanation. :)

I loved it when Cain said, about these NY protesters, if you aren’t rich..it’s your own fault.

Made me laugh all over.

UGH!!! Got too emotional in my post!!!

My whole point was leading to PLEASE DONATE!!!

We are going to unseat Barry! What would you all do without Free Republic? I would literally have no reason to turn on the computer.

I know times are tough financially but would you rather give to PBS or Free Republic? That should be a no-brainer!!!!

I love the funny pictures on the various threads encouraging people to donate, but I can tell you from the bottom of my heart that after my mom passed and I was only 25 and life seemed like nothing left to live for it was Jim Robinson, Free Republic and more specifically the Illinois FReepers who gave me a reason to live.

I dunno how many life changing stories we have, I'm sure there are many more than we will ever hear but thanks to Jim Robinson and the folks who run this site, I am alive and well to continue our goal.

So even with the flu and insomnia I'll try and bid one more goodnight and thanks to JR for everything you have done for this MOVEMENT!!! Jim Robinson IS the Tea Party :)

Two man race?

Zogby poll 10/5:

http://zogby.com/news/2011/10/06/ibope-zogby-poll-cain-expands-lead-over-gop-field-leads-obama-46-44/

Republican Candidates (asked only of the party's primary voters)

"If the Republican primary for President were held today, for whom would you vote?"

Cain: 38%
Romney: 18%
Perry: 12%
Paul: 12%
Gingrich: 4%

In the same Zogby poll results, Cain beats Obama 46% to 44% in a poll of all likely voters. Romney loses to Obama 40% to 41%.

Great summary of his bio. Thanks, I didn’t know most of it. Very impressive.

On top of all that he has great temperament, and a sense of humor that reminds me of Reagan.

"but look for Newt's vast experience edge to propel him over Herman Cain in time. "

Newt has spent years cultivating a huge grassroots following.

Remember Reagan's 11th commandment.
