SARAH PALIN'S "EARTHQUAKE"

Sarah Palin’s “Earthquake”
© 2011 by Anthony James

A little less than three years ago American conservatives received a devastating gut blow when Barack Obama was elected president. Although the mainstream media had not done any of their usual in-depth vetting of this largely unknown candidate, there were nonetheless millions of Americans who had availed themselves of the information digging properties on the Internet, who knew very well who this man was, who his radical past associations were, and who knew without being told what he meant when he said, “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America!”

A few scant weeks earlier that same core group of American conservatives had been given reason for joyous exultation and celebration. Taking the stage at the RNC convention was an amazing conservative superstar unlike anything seen before or since. When Sarah Palin, Republican Governor of Alaska and John McCain’s selection for vice president in 2008 strode to the microphone and delivered that amazing acceptance speech, I felt like a gradeschool child watching fireworks on the Fourth of July. I was out of my mind with joy.

In the nearly three years since Obama’s victory, American conservatives have remained sane largely by keeping our focus on that bit of light at the end of the tunnel. That bit of light is also the most brightly shining superstar in all of American politics. We were able to bide our time and suffer the horrific indignities of the Obama administration by clinging to the hope, the desperate belief, that come 2012 we would have a chance to watch Governor Sarah Palin do for America what she had done for Alaska as president of a Nation once again allowed the opportunity to draw itself up to its full height.

On the evening of Thursday, October 6, tens of millions of conservatives across America once again had the wind kicked out of them as Sarah Palin on the Mark Levin radio show announced that she would not be running for president in 2012. The sense of abject hopelessness and despair was palpable and numbing. Year after year of sincere prayer, desperate wishes, and hopeful optimism as expressed by tens of millions of Americans throughout the heartland, all were snuffed in that instant.

Those among the deeply invested who wanted so badly for Sarah to run were not mindless followers or deluded Kool-Aid drinkers. They were people like yours truly who were thoroughly conversant with the amazing record of successes Sarah had amassed as Mayor of Wasilla and then as Governor. We could recite by heart her specific and unique qualifications that marked her as the perfect person for the job, and fully waist, head and shoulders above anyone else in the field.

We also knew that of all the candidates who might win in 2012 for the Republican ticket, only Sarah had a well known history of hunting down those of her predecessors who had run afoul of the law and having them fitted for state-issued jumpsuits. Nothing less would have been appropriate in Alaska under Governor Palin, and nothing less will be remotely acceptable now for America.

FreeRepublic.com is America’s leading site for conservative activism on the World Wide Web, and has been for well over a decade. Despite not really having the heart to engage in any political discussions given the recent paralysis which has consumed me since last Thursday, I logged onto FreeRepublic today and was given my life back. A FReeper (as the inhabitants of FeeRepublic are often referred to) known as “upsdriver” had received permission from the site’s owner and founder, Jim Robinson, to start a thread called “Sarah Palin’s Earthquake.”

Apparently Sarah had been asked in one of the recent interviews what it would take to get her to change her mind. I’m assuming here that she replied that, “…it would take an earthquake.” This is how the idea was born that those who, like me, have spent the last few days stumbling around in the blind funk might find a way to channel and even make extremely productive use of this terrible sense of loss and emptiness by doing something positive to change it. When you really look at it, isn’t this what America has always been all about? Taking having been dealt a lousy hand, and with effort and innovation, turning it into something worth leaving to your children?

If you are among the millions who who know that there is nobody who will come close to generating the enthusiasm, filling the stadiums, or bringing out the voters in 2012 like Sarah Palin will, this movement is for you. If you are among the millions who know that there is no other candidate with a proven track record and decades of experience doing exactly those things that most need to be done to save this nation as it trembles on the brink of Third World mediocrity, it’s time for you to act.

We will be Sarah Palin’s “Earthquake.” There is even a Facebook group started called Sarah Palin’s Earthquake. If you’re on Facebook go and sign up. Either way, get a postcard… or better still, get 50 postcards. Fill them out with this phrase:

“WE ARE THE EARTHQUAKE!”

Mail them to:

The Office of Sarah Palin
P.O. Box 871235
Wasilla, AK 99687

Let’s make absolutely certain that, at the end of the day, if Sarah doesn’t end up running for president in 2012, at the very least it will not be because she did not know how many of us would dearly love to see her and her amazing American family in our White House.

It remains impossible for me to reconcile how someone could be so sincere in their frequent praise of our troops and their willingness to leave even their lives on the battlefield in answer to the call of their country, and then for that same person to turn her back and walk away as her country cries out in its most desperate hour of life and death need. Quite frankly, that’s not the Sarah Palin I know and love.

Let’s make sure she knows it, too.

“Buck up or stay in the truck!”

“If you can’t ride two horses at once you probably shouldn’t join the circus.”

“Don’t retreat… RELOAD!!!”

I'd agree with you...except she said she prayed about it. To get her to disobey Almighty God would be a seriously BAD decision.

Yeah...I admit, I'd love it if she changed her mind. However, I have reconciled to the fact that God has told her...for whatever reason...NOT to run.

Why do I think God told her not to run?

I am beginning to believe, more and more, that God is about to judge this country. When He does, it will not be pretty. Whoever is running the country at the time will have it VERY bad. It may very well be that He knows Sarah follows Him, and in His mercy He doesn't want her to be the one to feel His wrath.

I also am now almost convinced this will be our last national election. No one in the current lineup can beat Obama. Once he gets that second term, our country is destroyed. The only way...the ONLY WAY...this could be avoided is if a majority of people got down on their knees and repented of the apathy toward the evil that has infested this land. Massive national repentance and revival- that is the only thing that MAY cause God to stay His hand.

Although I believe in miracles, and that He is merciful and can do anything, I do not hold out much hope that this will happen.

To: Gargantua; All

hope Palin reconsiders.

Do you all think we should send Pallin something like this?

Sarah Palin,

You gave up running to spare your family the liberal media smears.

But you think your family will be prosperous or even safe the way the U.S.A is going toward socialism? Think again. Please reconsider and run and win the presidency. Only you can save the U.S.A. from becoming a socialist hell hole. You think your family will prosper in socialist U.S.A? think again. When the socialists(democrats) achieve total power then the democrats/socialists will come after people like you who have money and are conservative first. Mark my words. think it can’t happen in the U.S.A? think again. And the marxist/democrats hate you most of all because they knew you were the only one that could stop them from achieving their goal so they will come after you first.
Please reconsider , run for and win the Presidency and stop the socialists from over taking America.

From a Fellow American.

The U.S.A is declining rapidly because of the growth of government/socialism.

When the socialists take total power and come after your little possessions you will wish Palin had run.

I do wish Palin had decided to run, but I also respect her decision NOT to run. You are a moron for attempting to blame me for her decision not to do so. Nevertheless, she is correct in deciding that the benefits of working on the outside outweigh the temptation of being a candidate at this time. Time will tell!

"...To get her to disobey Almighty God..."

No, we're convicted that she may already have done that. She admits she was very close to saying "Yes," but then her kids talked her out of it. We want her to make certain she's following the Lord's leading.

Prayerful following is not a precise science... it's never as cut and dried as actually "hearing God say" one thing or another, it's a form of becoming convicted over time of where you believe you're being led through much prayerful consideration.

The result is not perfect or infallible, because in the end it is fallible, imperfect people who are interpereting what they believe to be His leading. Mistakes can be, have been, and often are made. We firmly believe that if there is a chance that she made such an error here, she should have the chance as well as the encouragement to rectify it.

It's called keeping each other "accountable," and it is one of Jesus' commands for the whole church, one obligation every Christian has to another.

"I copied you since you pinged him, presumably to get him to change his mind, not to “make your own choices”.

You raise an excellent case in point; I'm pretty sure that WF "pinged" Jim Robinson to bring to his attention the fact that the author of this article gave FreeRepublic and Jim himself a nice plug in an online newspaper that is nationally syndicated, and which will be reprinted nationally dozens of times in the next few days.

Especially in the middle of a Freepathon, this can be helpful. However, your focus and attention is being colored by your own feelings to the point where you completely either miss or ignore this possibility.

"She's not 'walking away' from the public square..."

No, she isn't. And nobody said she was. The article cites quite accurately that she is "walking away from" as much of her country as is crying out for her leadership as President in 2012.

Let's try to stay on point, Suzi. Obfuscation and topic-shifting dissembling are not allowed on my posts. Ergo.

Perhaps it was her husband’s decision and God will bless her obedience."

I have never seen any evidence or proof of Todd Palin lying. He said in an interview last week with Stephen K. Bannon that the decision was Sarah's to make, and the he would support her no matter what she decided.

I believe him.

I also know that "following God's leading" is not a precise "science." There's alot of room for error, and this movement simply attempts to highlight that possibility to ensure a correct outcome.

God's answer to specific questions can be one thing one day, and quite another the next. His timing is not ours to determine or pre-judge. If it turns out that this current decision is indeed God's will, we'll know. And we can live with that.

Even Jesus said, "Test the spirits." That's all we're doing. ;^\

I think it is very possible, if Palin did leave all of us out here in the cold based on the feelings of her children, we are facing the worst of all possible worlds.

Children change their feelings on a dime.

I think it likely her children will change their feelings - probably the first time some schoolyard bully calls their mother a “quitter” during an argument. Of course by then there will be no turning the decision around. The taunt will sting, and not be forgotten. The kids end up not appreciating the sacrifice made on their behalf. And America will have lost a unique opportunity to avoid communism.

Pretty much the worst possible outcome. I hope I’m wrong, but this appears to have been a disasterous decision to me.

Palin made a huge mistake. America is not better for it.

“how did the stupid party get itself in a position...”

Good question. I think the GOP is a stinking corpse which someone has forgotten to bury, but many here disagree.

How does a party allow Democrats to be elected and reelected to the US Senate without opposition from deep red states ( defined as Bush > 60%)?

Would the Dems allow a Republican to run unopposed in California or Massachusetts? The very idea is absurd.

The Democrats are united by plunder and murder of innocents. The Republicans h ave no unifying principle. When a candidate tries to rally them to a campaign of ideas, they allow her to be destroyed.

We need a new and conservative party. The corpse of the GOP is in the way. Get on with the funeral.

"limey fag?? that is really out of left field and rather odd...o well, I forgive your nonsense."

Sorry if you missed my joke. Your tagline is a quote from Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven." In the live concert version from 1974, as that verse is sung, Robert Plant ad-libs to the audience in this typically faggy, utterly failed Brit attempt at American coolness:

"Does anybody remember laughter?"

That's all. I was making an obscure reference to the foppish Plant's pathetic screech. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

It’s great if Jim/FR gets broader publicity but there’s absolutely nothing to indicate that that was why WF pinged Jim, as evidenced by WF’s subsequent replies to me when discussing his initial comment - during which he mentioned nothing of the sort, and he’s certainly articulate enough to have done so if that was his motivation.

“Love blinds us to faults, hatred to virtues.”

That it does, and it makes us ascribe motives to others that we wish they had.
