I cast my first ballot for President of the United States for Richard M. Nixon in that election.
Yes, I remember the insanity from the left. Sadly, some of the same slime are still stirring in the pot. ie Ayres & friends.
If the outcome is the same, there is only 1 solution to this mess. DownSize DC! Close entire departments and move any worthwhile functions to the States. That way the entrenched lefties will be out of power. Otherwise, they will fight us every step of the way. IT IS TIME.
At the very least, his patriotism shouldnt be in question (compared to those in power today).
The only reason McGovern and other lefties bravely fought for America in World War II was because their hero-nation The Soviet Union, was invaded by fellow Socialist Hitler.
I have three dominate memories of the ‘72 election, my first:
Someone kept stealing Nixon posters from my back fence,
My maternal uncle taught his two year old daughter to scream expletives whenever McGovern appeared on TV and
Sitting in a restaurant in Southern California having dinner and listening to the news people call the elections outcome while it was still daylight!
Are you claiming that Pearl Harbor had nothing to do with it?
If Hitler hadn’t have stupidly declared war against the US, the streets of New York would’ve been as full of anti-war rioters as they were during the Civil War and Vietnam.
This could be the Law and Order election. And, it is already the "git rid of the commies" election.
Perfect '72 analogy.
To all who responded:
I am not praising Nixon. I am pointing out that McGovern allied himself with the demonstrators and lost decisively.
Before the takeover, union leadership and rank and file paid close watch to make sure communist elements did not infiltrate their ranks. And unions did not exist in the public sector. How could they? Public servants worked for taxpayers.
Today, unions comprise mostly workers inside government. Many of the leaders are hopelessly corrupt, as are many in their ranks. Corrupt from the power they weild. And the pay and benefits beat private sector jobs.
Are you claiming that Pearl Harbor had nothing to do with it?
I think I know where he is coming from. And his point is correct. Lots of commies in New York. Back then they called themselves bolshevik's. And they were peace-love, especially when Hitler and Stalin signed the non-agression pact to divide Poland. Then when Hitler decided to strike Soviet Union they could not scream loud enough for US to go to war. Pearl Harbor finally got all America out of isolationist mode.
