Heavy rain not stopping Germans
Sunday, October 12, 1941 www.onwar.com
On the Eastern Front... German advances towards Moscow continue despite the heavy rains. Kaluga is captured after fierce fighting with the Soviets. The town of Bryansk is evacuated, but fighting in the area continues.
In North Africa... Relief operations continue to the besieged British outpost at Tobruk (7000 troops are taken in and just under 8000 are taken out). The minelayer Latona is sunk by a Stuka attack and one destroyer is damaged in the operations.

U.S.S.R.: Kaluga falls to the German forces advancing on Moscow. The worsening weather has caused problems with the advance, but has not been able to stop it. Today the Russians evacuate Bryansk, and civilians start to be evacuated from Moscow.
NORTH AFRICA: A series of relief efforts for Tobruk begin today. During the next 14 days over 7000 troops of the British 70th Infantry Division will be transferred in and almost 8000 Australians will be pulled out. The British lose minelayer Latona and damage to one destroyer.
U.S.A.: THE NEW YORK TIMES lists two commercial TV stations in New York City, WNBT (now WNBC-TV) on channel 1 and WCBW (now WCBS-TV) on channel 2. (Jack McKillop)

Thanks for the bttt.
Homer has been doing this for at least two years, and will do so until September of 2015 and the 70th anniversary of the end of the war.
Personally, it’s one of my favorite ongoing threads and something I read every day.
A nice break from dealing with you know who in the White House.
"From June to November 1941, Arthur Nebe commanded Einsatzgruppe B, operating around Minsk, Belorussia, and along the Moscow front.
In those five months, Nebe's unit executed over 45,000 Jews.
"After completing his assignment in Russia, Nebe returned to his duties as head of the Criminal Police.
During Heinrich Himmler's visit to Minsk, Nebe staged the shooting execution of 100 people for the Reichsführer's viewing.
Himmler, sickened at the sight, became particularly distressed over two women not killed outright.
He then instructed Nebe to find more "humane" methods of killing.
When given the task of ending the suffering of insane-asylum inmates, Nebe used dynamite on the mentally ill.
"Involved in the plot against Hitler, Nebe was himself apparently executed in 1945.
He may have survived, however, as witnesses reported seeing him in Italy in 1956 and Ireland in 1960."
Great stuff as always!
Note the raid on the German radio station took place in September, but the details of the raid weren’t released until much later.
Obama could have taken a lesson from this.
This project began in January of 2008 when Homer, while doing some research ran across an article that he felt was worth posting (on 1938). Since then it has grown in epic proportions to where Homer has not been given a day off since August 2009. My FRiend, this is far better than the History Channel, we post the news, expand on the issues with our analysis as well as postings of audio, primary documentation, and scholarly text without having to answer to liberal executives. Awesome concept if you ask me.
whatever one labels it this is a unique and much valued thread for those of us who follow it
