New world champion Sebastian Vettel is not the best driver in Formula 1, according to former Renault team boss Flavio Briatore. "Vettel is definitely good," said the Italian. "But he won because he best managed his phenomenal car. He is not the best. If there was a race where they were all in the same car, Vettel would be behind Fernando Alonso and also Lewis Hamilton. On a qualifying lap, I see Vettel in pole position, then Hamilton and Alonso third."

Vettel has raised the bar for what is expected of a world championship-winning driver, according to BBC pundit and Red Bull adviser David Coulthard. "Up until this year, Alonso was the benchmark in F1 because he won back-to-back championships for Renault at a time when Michael was still at his peak at Ferrari, and even Seb looked at him like that. But now that's changing. It's not that Fernando has lost his powers, it's that Seb has proved his ability to deliver the lap time, energise the team, pull things back when it's not going well, not make many mistakes."

What about Jenson Button? What place is he in? ( I’ve missed a few races...)
Hamilton is only midpack in the talent pool of current F1 drivers, imo. He’s in a decent car.
Jensen Button is a far better driver and it looks like Hamilton will be relegated to #2 at Mclaren.
He won’t be able to stand that...
I guess he's as much as one can ask for in a modern F1 pilot.
If the RB is 'the best car out there', why hasn't Webbo been on the podium more often?
Hamilton's reputation has suffered this year but Button's has grown quite a bit.
Poor rich-boy Massa---can't get any respect.
Old Schumi sure did beat the socks off of Nico last time out! (/sarc)
Button is second in the WC. Alonso is close in third, then Webber, and Hamilton. Massa a long ways back, just in front of the Merc drivers, Rosberg and The Schum!
maybe McBenz if they dint step on it's own tail half the time
Seb, all the way. He’s already got it locked.
Maybe his next gig will be to team up with his gf and be a judge on X-factor?
My son, who is far more attuned to these things than I, believes Hamilton will leave McLaren because he can’t stand the idea of being #2 to Button. He may even go to a crap team like Williams.
I think Button is having his best year, even better than his World Championship season. That year, his car was so dominant at the start of the season anyone could have built up the lead he did, and then coasted to the title. This year, he’s really shown that he can do some things on the track. His “worst to first” at Canada comes to mind. His only problem is that he’s having a great year during the ascendancy of Seb.
I do think Button is the best of the rest right now, even better than Alonzo, clearly better than Hamilton. It would be interesting to see how he would do if they did away with DRS, because he’s been the one to make the most out of that new tactic.
I’m glad the weather looks like it’s going to be sunny and dry, instead of pouring rain like last year. Vettel is sandbagging in practice as usual.

Every race my sons and I have a pool for how many spots Webber will have lost coming out of turn 1. This week I put in “1” since I figure Alonso will pass him. Normally Webber can hold off Massa and I don’t think Petrov or Rosberg can get around both Massa and Webber.

Ha! I vote 3.
What was with Hamilton after the quali? He acted like someone just ran over his favorite dog.
