Scary is exciting ("Sheep’s head is not for wimps.")

Sheep’s head is not for wimps. Until now very few of us have been tempted by this traditional Norwegian dish.

"It's a pity, because you will really have to look far and wide for a more tasty traditional dish," says Professor Reidar Mykletun at the Norwegian School of Hotel Management at the University of Stavanger.

"With good potatoes, rutabaga mash, beer and aquavit sheep’s head is a tempting experience for genuine lamb enthusiasts. But sheep’s head is an example of a dish that is scary for many of us. With both ears, mouth, teeth, tongue and eyes looking at you from the plate, it’s close to being revolting for the uninitiated", he says.

The Kingfish was aghast: “Now do y’all think ah’m gonna eat something that come out of some animal’s mouth!? You go fry me a couple eggs!”

Wow, their exit hole is so much more yummy than that of the tongue.

And I thought nothing was lower on the food desirability chain than lutefisk.

I never heard of Lutefisk until I was stationed in North Dakota. The smell of that stuff could knock a buzzard off a gut wagon.

“If I remember it was a pretty tough meat”

Gosh! The way my Dad cooked it, you didn’t even need to chew! It just melted in your mouth. I believe it was the tenderest “cut” of any kind of meat that I’ve ever eaten. I love liver! But it has to be very fresh. From a butcher shop, not a supermarket.

” the eyes.”

Ex-ladyfriend, born in Shanghai, always ate the fish eyes. Tastiest part of a fish? The cheeks. Not much there though, unless you get a really big fish head to cook. I always cook fish “head on.”

On our honeymoon, hubby and I stopped at a little amish restaurant and when they found out we were newlyweds, the waitress gave me an amish cook book...one of the first dishes in it was calfs head soup....I never found a calfs head so never made the soup...:O) That was 1957 or 58, don’t remember which. I think it 58....

I eat what is set before me. Usually.

But I am a expert at making eyeballs disappear up my sleeve rather then into my mouth. It's a trick my dad taught me. :)

Brains, eyes, no. Not this kid.
