A gunman perched on a Brooklyn rooftop opened fire Friday, grazing an 11-year-old girl and killing a pregnant woman who was shielding several of her kids.
A second woman was wounded when the the gunman unleashed a hail of bullets from atop a building near Public School 298 in Brownsville about 2:30 p.m., police said.
Zurana Horton, the 33-year-old pregnant woman, was hit in the head in front of the Lucky Supermarket at Pitkin Ave. and Watkins St. after she threw herself over a group of children, cops and witnesses said.
"Moments before, she was seen hovering over several children to protect them," NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said.

Interesting. The dead woman had 13 children. I could not tell whether she was married conservative Christian, married Muslim or a welfare woman.
Sadly those are the only three groups having big families, and the Christians, not so much.

Seven 9-mm shell casings were found on the roof and five others were found on the sidewalk in front of the building.
The guy is cowardly terrorist but still it is surprising shooting. I can’t imagine making that choice of weapon for the job.
The coward emptied his magazine and ran. Probably a gang initiation.
It’s quite a contrast, isn’t it? The cowardly murderer and the brave woman who died with the hope that the children would live.
Hopefully the shooter will be turned in.

The news story last night said that there were two housing projects at war and that the occupants regularly shot at each other from the respective rooftops.
Our tax money is being used for all of this. It was used to construct the projects; to subsidize their tenants and their children who join the rival gangs and wind up mindlessly murdering innocent people like this sweet,good natured and receptive 34 year old pregnant mother of thirteen children.
The word “hero” is thrown around so carelessly nowadays. THIS is a hero.
Horrid picture. It would surprise most people how much blood there is when someone bleeds out. I’ve seen it first hand. It is like dumping 4 quarts of oil on the ground quickly. Except it is blood.
The Giuliani years were just a minor aberration.
Took place in a Operation Impact Zone that is flooded with extra cops and they didn’t catch the shooter. They probably need to contact Slow Joe Biden and have him give a speech about having more 1st responders. With about 1,500 cops per block, they might get a handle on purse snatching provided they didn’t shoot each other.
