Independent study confirms global warming exists

"...While climate is certainly an extraordinarily complicated mechanism, the facts keep pointing back to this simple fact of chemistry. Increased CO2 and methane may not be the sole cause of climate change, but it’s definitely a cause and almost certainly a major one.

Now, what next? My Forbes colleague Tim Worstall argues that this is a serious situation, but one in which the human race can make “marginal changes and still survive and thrive.” I agree with him on this – as long as we act quickly. The technology is moving at a rapid pace, and the industries are catching up. Just take solar power, for example – it’s currently one of the fastest growing industries in the United States with total growth of 6.8% from 2010 – 2011. Over 100,000 people are employed in the solar industry domestically, and solar companies plan on hiring about 24,000 people in the coming year. That’s an amazing success story."

Independent group of nutbags from Bezerkley, yeah right. Using corrupted NASA data as well as others.

Pray for America

No it’s not. That is a stupid statement. Almost as stupid as saying the science is settled. Almost.

Funded by quite a lot of government "stimulus", no doubt.

The earth warms the earth cools it's been going on for billions of years and man hasn't a damn thing to do with it nor can do a damn thing about it.

AGW is a deliberate hoax where the frauds insult those who not only know the facts but threaten their lucrative flim-flamm.

I wonder if the billions in stimulus money has anything to do with the growth. The solar industry would be dead without federal intervention.

Period.

Yup, that 3/100ths of one percent CO2 in the atmosphere is really doing a number on our heat.

Global warming will erase your hard drive. Not the data, but your actual hard drive! Not only that, but it will scramble any disks that are even close to your computer. It will recalibrate your refrigerator's coolness setting so all your ice cream goes melty. It will demagnetize the strips on all your credit cards, screw up the tracking on your television and use subspace field harmonics to scratch any CD's you try to play.

It will give your ex-girlfriend your new phone number. It will mix Kool-aid into your fishtank. It will drink all your beer and leave its socks out on the coffee table when there's company coming over. It will put a dead kitten in the back pocket of your good suit pants and hide your car keys when you are late for work.

Global warming will make you fall in love with a penguin. It will give you nightmares about circus midgets. It will pour sugar in your gas tank and shave off both your eyebrows while dating your girlfriend behind your back and billing the dinner and hotel room to your Discover card.

It will seduce your grandmother. It does not matter if she is dead, such is the power of Global warming, it reaches out beyond the grave to sully those things we hold most dear.

It moves your car randomly around parking lots so you can't find it. It will kick your dog. It will leave libidinous messages on your boss's voice mail in your voice! It is insidious and subtle. It is dangerous and terrifying to behold. It is also a rather interesting shade of mauve.

Global warming will give you Dutch Elm disease. It will leave the toilet seat up. It will make a batch of Methanphedime in your bathtub and then leave bacon cooking on the stove while it goes out to chase gradeschoolers with your new snowblower.

Listen to me. Global warming does not exist.

It cannot do anything to you. But I can. I am sending this message to everyone in the world. Tell your friends, tell your family. If anyone else bothers me with fearmongering concerning Global warming, I will turn hating them into a religion. I will do things to them that would make a horsehead in your bed look like Easter Sunday brunch.

Global warming may indeed exist.

But humans are not its cause.

The earth will warm and cool over time. Deal with it.

Newt will be thrilled.

After all, this “independent” research exonerates his support of the Anthropomorphic Global Warming “carbon tax” scam.

Look, CO2 is GOOD!

If there is any heating-up going on, I’m certain that the first order cause is the SUN (doh!).

CO2 is a fourth order or third order contributor at most.

Global warming has been occurring since the end of the last ice age.

We are in an interglacial period.

It won't last forever.

“Increased CO2 and methane may not be the sole cause of climate change, but it’s definitely a cause and almost certainly a major one”

That statement is absolutely pure poppycock! They aren’t MAJOR components to climate change, and its laughable folks keep claiming this. CO2 in the Atmosphere is more of an effect than a cause, the warmer the earth gets, the tundras melt and the CO2 trapped in them are released, that’s not a cause, its an effect... warmer temperatures and increased CO2 also result in more plant life and algea as well, converting more C02 to O2.. to try to play that C02 is a major factor in climate change is not remotely proven.

In fact the single biggest factor in heat retention and greenhouse effect is WATER VAPOR! No other element comes remotely close the scope and effect when it comes to reflecting and keeping heat in.

Sure we have had global warming. The place were I am sitting was under hundreds of feet of glacier ice about 20,000 years ago, but I didn’t have to tunnel out of the ice to walk the dog this morning. Obviously we had a lot of global warming to push these glaciers back above the arctic circle, but we also had a heck of a lot of global cooling to have caused most of the northern hemisphere to be covered with ice several times. Man increased CO2 levels could not be the cause so obviously there is some other mechanism of climate change that we cannot control or influence that caused these ice ages.

It's nothing more than an old response to the “Good Times!” virus warnings that went viral back in the 90s. All I did was remove “Good Times” and inserted “Global Warming.”

I don't recall anything bad happening to anyone when “Take that, Good Times!” hit the in boxes. You can stop hyperventilating anytime now.

Independent study confirms global warming exists...

Independent of what? Bias? Liberal influence? Group-think? Grant money?

The earth warms - it cools - been like that since the beginning. Politics enters when 'solutions' damage or help one group over another - artificially.

Get this straight and never forget it.

We will burn up every single drop of fossil fuel that can be brought up out of the Earth for less energy than will be provided when burning it. Every single drop.

We can stop worrying about fossil fuels at that point - but never let that simple fact escape you.

We will burn every single drop of cost effectively available fossil fuel.

First before we all lose it, this study only says that the temperature has been increasing and not that there is AGW which is the real question that the alarmists having jumping the gun on, anyway. Also regarding the points that you made :

Berkeley = independent ?

Meaning independent of the govt.
The funding sources are listed on their website
link
and the largest donor is the Koch foundation. The reason is that over the past two years the head of this study has been among the biggest climate skeptics out there.

DONORS

The Lee and Juliet Folger Fund ($20,000)
William K. Bowes, Jr. Foundation ($100,000)
Fund for Innovative Climate and Energy Research (created by Bill Gates) ($100,000)
Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation ($150,000)
The Ann & Gordon Getty Foundation ($50,000)

Also they did not use Argo data and continue to use the data from NASA that has been “adjusted” to fit.

You obviously haven't read the papers. The study only looks at land based stations, since it only measures average land temperature. So ARGO (which are ocean floats) have nothing to do with it. Also the study considers data from every land based station in the world. And their approach is very different from NASA GIS.

Oops, I was wrong. Its not really independent. Its partly funded by the govt.

OTHER FINANCIAL SUPPORT

This work was supported in part by the Director, Office of Science, of the U.S. Department of Energy under Contract No. DE-AC02-05CH11231 ($188,587)

Yup, I would say it is a 100% lie - if you accept the historical record, revealed by Antarctic ice cores, that proves that temperature increase PRECEDES CO2 increase by 800-1200 years.

Argo data and the ADJUSTED land data conflict, now which is more reliable ?

Argo which is not near Urban Heat Islands or land based that have to be adjusted to fit.

and claiming the author is a major skeptic is a stretch..

...

and please tell us why including more land stations makes it better, the American Stations are supposed to be the “gold standard” and have to be “adjusted” so now we add in more stations of inconclusive provonence to tack on to proxies that for some reason are GREAT till about 1960 or so and then go all wobbly..

Sorry as Computer Sys. Guy... GIGO is the word for most studies relying on adjusted data.

First, I agree he is not a climate skeptic(in the sense that we are) but he has been pretty critical of scientists trying to prove AGW (the hockey stick nonsense for example) by falsehoods. I imagine that is why the Koch foundation saw fit to fund his study.
Regarding your questioning the science, i dont actually see an argument.
First ARGO has a very short time series indeed (10 years) with gradually increasing resolution (as more floats were added) so it is rather insufficient to say anything about mean temperatures from that data set yet. So why on earth are you stuck onto ARGO?
Also what on earth do you mean “adjusted”? Can I have a reference about this “adjustment”. Besides, every study does not (and cannot) have to show everything. This study focuses on trying to resolve a long-standing question about biases in urban land stations vs rural ones.
Personally, I have no problems believing that temperatures can rise, the problem is with this AGW stuff which is a clear jumping-the-gun scenario.
