For sure, "The Exorcist" is on the list. Also, "Rosemary's Baby", one of the all time scariest movies ever.
I suppose if I really wanted to get scared, I could cue up a bunch of Progressive Commercials with that Flo dame. She is definitely related to the folks in "Night of the Living Dead"

i watch as many horror flicks as i can in October but reserve Halloween and Halloween 2 for the day before and day of Halloween depending on where it falls

I want to see the new version of “The Thing”, I have both previous versions (I’m somewhat of a nut about getting all the versions of a movie if there are remakes)
“Cape Fear” with DeNiro is pretty spooky...
So was the remake of “The Fly” with Jeff Goldblum...

The Haunting 1963 Julia Harris, Clair Bloom. One of the scariest movies I have ever seen. The hair rose on the back of my neck just typing the title. Something about the movie... demonic? Don’t know, but you asked for it so there it is. Just don’t invite me over, OK?
With all that mumbling I couldn't take him seriously. I wanted to laugh when he vomited on his Oreos.

As for “The Haunting”, Director Martin Scorsese named this his favorite horror film.
Also some of the old Twilight Zones are darn creepy.

Easily the scariest show I have ever watched.
I don’t like real horror scary movies. I prefer funny scary, so I recommend Shaun of the Dead. Nothing like a good (funny) zombie movie!

“The Ring” was the first movie my wife & I saw together.
We still chuckle about how good the movie was vs. how bad a choice it was for “our first movie”. Looked up at the huge menu of theater options, and that was the only tolerable film. Surprised how “we” survived that.
FWIW: “The Ring” is a movie that you must choose to suspend your disbelief for (worthwhile). If you don’t, it won’t work.
I recall there was a made-for-tv movie/miniseries about a decade ago about a woman/family that started getting spook stuff in their house.
Somewhat loosely based on a real event.

I’ve seen “The Haunting” and that one is pretty scary. It pretty much seems to me that the scariest stuff isn’t the most overblown blood and guts things, but the stripped-down very basic psychological terror flicks.
That’s why Rosemary’s Baby will always be near the top of my list. That’s the kind of movie you watch and then you do not sleep that night!!
The first Halloween (ignore all the sequel except MAYBE H20). The first Halloween remake (way ignore the sequel, everything Rob did well with the first one he screwed up in the second). The entire Evil Dead series. The Nightmare Before Christmas (though I tend to watch that around Thanksgiving since it bridges Halloween and Christmas). All 3 versions of I Am Legend (all deeply flawed movies, but also all enjoyable). Any randomly selected Roger Corman creature movie, they’re always fun. The first Nightmare on Elm Street (ignore sequels and remake except Wes Craven’s New Nightmare which is really good). Jason X, while all the world knows sequels only get worse by X the series had gotten self aware and self mocking, making this one the funniest of the series. The first 2 Screams (forget 3 and 4 though).
A few years ago, I happened to watch the movie “Freaks” on either AMC or Turner Classic Movies. Made in the 1930’s, it’s not really a horror film but wierd in a morbid curiosity way.

For kids, the original Frankenstein is still the scariest movie ever.
It seems like it has a lot of disjointed stuff..like it was cobbled together from different stories. But it worked for me. Another one I liked was "Mothman".

I just picked up “Dark Star” from Amazon - Carpenter’s first flick!
He also did “They Live” which is kinda campy-scary, worth watching a couple times a year...
