Tea Party Says Metro Government Playing Favorites
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Questions have been raised about the 2½-month long special event permit issued to Occupy Louisville.
Members of the tea party believe the Metro Government gave the protesters a big break.
According to a spokesperson for Metro Public Works that's just not the case, though spokeswoman Lindsay English said the request was unusual.
Occupy Louisville continues its occupation of Jefferson Square. For several days the group operated without permit.
Now, Occupy Louisville has been given the OK to camp out until 2012.
"It was kind of uncharted waters because there had never been requests put in for that length of time," said English.
"I just question the process they went through to get that," said Wendy Caswell, who helped organize a one-day tea party event in Jefferson Square in April 2010.
Caswell said to get a permit, the tea party had to obtain a $1 million liability policy, provide security and medical personnel.
The Richmond Tea Party is rightly screaming for a refund as well.
