Word For The Day, Thursday, November 3, 2011 - metemperical
dictionaries ad nauseam | 3 November 2011 | Thursday's sub

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

metempirical \met-em-PIR-i-kuhl\, adjective
1. Beyond or outside the field of experience.
2. Of or pertaining to metempirics.

Example sentences:
...but the quality of her innate wit had deepened, strange “metempirical” (as Van called them) undercurrents seemed to double internally, and thus enrich, the simplest expression of her simplest thoughts.
-- Vladimir Nabokov, Ada, or Ardor, a Family Chronicle

Still however, instead of aspiring to becoming rigorous and metempirical, poetry lives by the heart, the sense and singing.
-- Kahlil Gibran with Andrew Dib Sherfan, The Third Treasury of Kahlil Gibran

Etymology:
Metempircal derives from the Greek words met- meaning “beyond or before” and empirical meaning “experience.”

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

This all comes down to the destruction of society because of the birth control pill.

He allegedly told the girl that he chose her for his “first time.”

Wonder how many times he used that line?

Sure. If men weren’t of the expectation that every effort was to be sterile, they wouldn’t have to be tricked into making babies.

Well it’s even deeper than that. it’s totally removed responsibility/consequences from the sex act. it’s the idea that procreation isn’t the likely, let alone desired, end-product of the sex act. perhaps men would think more about where they were sticking it, if there were responsibility for something attendant to the act. And women of course, would be less likely to engage realizing there were consequences attached. The Church is right about this, and i say that as someone who has used it, in my life.

He was 16, give a guy a break, LOL!

I try to impress upon my son that once is all it takes to find yourself shackled to someone for the rest of your life with child support. Celebrities would need to be extra careful, because if this is true, that girl just bought herself the winning 30 second lottery ticket!

I have often said that the pill was the death of civilization....because before it, girls were so afraid of getting preggers and people knowing that they’d had sex. After the pill, that likelihood disappeared and eventually all stigma was removed from pre-marital sex. Now it has swung the opposite way to the point where the preg 15 year old is no big news. Can’t tell you how many teen moms I saw pushing strollers at the local Little League games. And I am pretty sure thet were not babysitting their younger siblings. Unfortunately, it is so accepted that even a teenager who wants to be chaste feels a tremendous pressure to give in....especially if thay have a boyfriend or girlfriend who has already been there, done that.

The people questioning Cain's awareness of China's nuke capability, need to be a little more metempirical

They might start by asking what the hell he was doing during Vietnam, (Considering China went atomic in '64). Sure, he's clueless.

Have a good day. I got poured on during my run, but there is something exhilarating about that so I won’t complain. Also, I saw a big heron in the river, two groups of deer, and a flock of wild turkeys right next to the trail. A good day.

The Left is so much smarter than the rest of society. Just ask them, and they’ll tell you, over and over. A+ for you.

I’m surprised that no one has linked the term “metampirical” with Obama’s lack of experience in ANYTHING, other than lying.

I think it is even worse that there is no shame associated with out of wedlock pregnancy, as if it is something to celebrate, deliberately giving birth to and keeping a child with only one parent. I am a big proponent of adoption.

I agree, but i also don’t want there to be so much stigma that girls will abort rather than give birth to those babies. One of xsboys’s friends got his girlfriend pregnant. The couple never considered abortion, both raised in extremely prolife Catholic families. But they did explore adoption. When the girl’s parents found out about that, they hit the roof. They are very conservative Lebanese Christian parents, from the old country. They told her they would disown her if she did not marry him and keep the baby. so that’s what they did. The baby was born in mid_October.
