Are they looking for a hand out?

Holy Moly. That’s a pretty big one.

I looked them up on the web. They are the largest of the insects. The biggest comes from Asia and has a body length of 20 inches. Seems like a lot of people keep them in terrariums as pets.

Interesting. My grand daughter is really scared of even the little ones.

That seems like a typical reaction to this insect. Just being ugly gives them a reputation of being poisonous or deadly. This is the first one I have actually seen in many many years. And yes he was big.

dropped 40 lbs of 6-6-6 yesterday and it was not enough, I got another bag tonight and I will put the 2nd bag on the garden in the morning. That should do it for the rest of the season..

I was coming home a couple days ago, driving through northeast Nebraska—went past a huge quonset that was painted white except for a red stripe on each end. Painted on the end toward the highway was
“The Home of the Free Because of the Brave”

It sure did look good out in the middle of nowhere. I made that drive a week before- but after dark so it did not show up.

You should have another planting season coming up. My cool weather plants (cabbage, lettuce, beets) are still going strong!

Yes sir, Jan 15thish.... Last year it was the 2nd week of Feb due to the record Global warming.. Got down to 22 degrees out here, I don’t care where you live, that’s cold... summer squash and greenbeans are coming in heavy. Winter squash, watermellon, brock, coliflower, Brussel Sprouts, cabbage all look great, Peppers are everywhere.. It is a good weather fall garden. A bit to much water in Sept but that can be cured... Take care...
