10th Grade Biology. We all got a jar full of things to dissect. Started with a large worm, and worked up to a fetal pig. One of the other creatures was a humongous grasshopper! About 7/8 inches long! Don’t know where they came from,,,,,....

That’s from the movie “Them” with James Whitmore and James Arness (Gunsmoke).

It’s one of my all time favorites.

Oh, and by the way, DONATE MONTHLY.

“Adult males and females are usually 6.0 and 8.0 cm. long,”

The ones I cut up in Biology were much bigger than that!

That’s a standard bluebird house it’s sitting on, 3/4 inch thick redwood construction.

Well, it say the males are 8 cm long at the link. We get ‘em that big in Ohio. How long, would you say, that one in the pic os?

That’s not even close to the ones in Biology. Bet they came from South America, or Asia. The abdomen on those was about an inch thick.

I’ve been searching the web, and haven’t any hoppers that big. It’s been 50 years since biology class. May they weren’t technically grasshoppers? Only something that looked grasshopper-like. And who knows how long the were sealed in those bottles of formaldehyde?

Grasshopper in pic is known as a lubber...very common in Florida....will eat any vegetation...cannot fly. Male is about half the size of a female..offspring are black. It has no terrestrial enemies but is eaten by certain fish. If you see one on your property, best kill it.

Well, either way. They both are destructive and malodourous.
