Carrie Fisher slams William Shatner's claims Star Trek is better than Star Wars

It is the debate that has been raging between generations of science fiction fans.

But Star Trek star William Shatner believed he had delivered the coup de grace two months ago when he delivered a stinging critique he thought proved his franchise was superior.

But there is a new hope for Star Wars fans, as original cast member Carrie Fisher has struck back with a rebuke that could return the Jedi-filled universe back to prominence.

In a somewhat rambling YouTube video, the Princess Leia star let rip on the rival sci fi favourite.

She said: 'They are not in the same league. i mean they have the word star in the title, and there is space travel.

'Where do they go to, Klingon? It just sounds like a laundry detergent.'

The successful actress and author had a list of grievances with the television and movie franchise that she said made it inferior, including lacklustre visuals, make-up, toys and video games.

She said: 'Show me a special effect, maybe they are just effects, they are not called special effects.

Oh, I don’t know about that.

Star Wars was exciting when it came out but it really doesn’t seem as potentially ‘real’ as Star Trek, especially now that there is a new series of movies coming out, the alternate reality Star Trek, which does seem to be entertaining.

I don't really have a dog in this fight, but I'd still like to point out that if I were a Star Wars backer I'd avoid calling attention to silly names... just sayin'.

STAR TREK (The TV show)was so bad you can tell it was made on the cheap!

I was only able to set through one full show about a machine that ate planets. The others were terrible!

STAR WARS was much better but too many people have become way too enamored with it. I could not set through the later 1990s versions as they were so awful.

Even a Tribble is manlier than Jar-Jar Binks.

A handful of the original ST series episodes were good TV, that’s all. The original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back were excellent and original takes on old SF cliches.

But it’s all garbage—fun, but garbage, while these two go on like it’s Shakespeare. Star Wars is relentlessly childish, Star Trek relentlessly PC and pretentious.

Neither is good SF. Neither takes any chances.

They both suck.

Take a look at those episodes today. They've been remastered in HD with all new CGI special effects. Aside from the uniforms, nothing looks cheap anymore.

No doubt about it.

How's this for irony, the only time Star Wars beat Star Trek was when Ms, Fischer was wearing her slave girl bikini.

I never hear Star Wars dialog quoted for occasions as if it were Proverbs.

It wouldn’t be logical.

Season One of Space:1999 was magnificent compared to ST and SW.
