JONESBORO, Ga. (CBS Atlanta) Police charge two caregivers at a Jonesboro facility with waterboarding an 89-year-old woman.
Clayton County police said Jermeller Steed and Cicely Reed held down Anna Foley after an argument that started over ice cream.
Theyre said to have allegedly held down Foley in a locked shower room, flooding her face with the hand-hold shower nozzle in 2008.
According to WGCL-TV, Foley was undergoing treatment at the facility for dementia. A co-worker witnessed the event and blew the whistle.
The technique slowly drowns subjects by blocking the air passages with flowing water while the subject is immobilized.
The Obama administration banned waterboarding suspected terrorists in January 2009, classifying it as torture.

again....take your elderly in yourselves...you have a choice...
putting mom and dad out to a nursing home is a relatively new concept.....
today people are too busy ....but not too busy to demean those who work in those facilities...
I can see how you think that but it is more than just “don’t have time” or “laziness” as some would say. My uncle hurt his back trying to lift my grandmother over and over. Really he was not trained to lift someone as nurses are and that can be a strain if one also has a job. (tires you out). People put their loved ones, at least some do, in nursing homes so the “well trained staff” can lift them and tend to their needs round the clock. With some patients a lift is needed as they are rather large. Really the problem is not the idea of a nursing home but the quality of people they are able to hire. More often than not the people hired are nothing more than McDonalds workers. This is just a paycheck and they could care less about the “old people” they care for.
Dibs on who they voted for in 2008
“do you know how much caregivers are paid?”
In a nursing home not much.
HOWEVER
In private care as in people’s homes quite well! Most train in a nursing home then go to private care where the money is. Plus in private care less demanding hours, only one person to watch much easier.
Now here is the catch with these chicks. If you have to fire one of them the rest will often quit on you because they for a “click” and you are left with no care givers.
In my opinion these people are pure trash. I saw this with my grandmother.
I did the usual ‘stop in unannounced’ to check on my granny and my aunts would get so upset because why? Oh it upset the care givers!! My one aunt even said “we can’t upset the care givers they will up and quit and I can’t care for Mom”. Un-freakin-believable !!
Hell yes they would up and quit and you all know what else? They would go right down the road and find a new job! Pure freaking trash. I have no use for them.
Most of these chicks were about 18 to 22 years of age. I know they don’t know what it is like to be old, they don’t think they will be old one day, they only think of here and now but karma is a bitch and one day they will get theirs.
You obviously didn’t read far enough uh cherry. MY GRANDMOTHER REFUSED LIVING WITH US, HELLO
You are a judgmental cruel person
Guess what you mean hack
SOME OLD PEOPLE WON’T LIVE WITH THEIR RELATIVES.
Doesn’t excuse the fact that the elder care is given in a lot of cases by sadists. What, you saying that just because you don’t make a hundred grand it is ok to be a sadist to someone who is in your clutches? You are a beast
Honey, calm down.
Some people don’t understand and are never going to understand. Not until they have walked in our shoes and realize how hard it is.
Yes I agree some relatives don’t want to live with other relatives.
and
Some relatives just can’t do it. It is hard to lift another human if not trained or if you are older. Sometimes it takes two nurses to lift a person correctly. I understand this but not everyone does.
The main purpose of a nursing home is that there should be “nurses” there who look out for the constant medical needs of very old and often very ill people. Nurses are suppose to have training that us lay people don’t have. Nurses are suppose to have more compassion but it would appear that a lot of these type of nurses are lacking in that area.
I blame the lack of morals in society in general. As well as turning away from God.
It’s partially that, but also partially because more and more people are living to advanced ages where they suffer from conditions like dementia. This wasn’t an issue 50 years ago or in the Third World today because you’d likely die before you could ever get to that point. Most families are unwilling or unable to care for a person who has reached this degree of debility.
“Most of these chicks were about 18 to 22 years of age. I know they dont know what it is like to be old, they dont think they will be old one day, they only think of here and now but karma is a bitch and one day they will get theirs.”
Yeah, but that’s not for decades. Perhaps when they’re old, things will be different and medical treatment advances to the point where we can add quality of life as well as quantity. Keeping a person alive to 90 through multiple drugs/surgeries is pointless if all it does is prolong their misery.
I only hope that things improve and subsequent generations of people don’t suffer as badly in their last years as these old people have.
Have you ever heard the stories of what goes on in poultry farms? The same kind of people (ie. those with a thug mentality) work there, only instead of beating up old people, they beat up chickens. But it’s the same concept of choosing a job where you can pick on those who won’t fight back.
I think at the end of the day, we’re being punished for playing God. You say “Oh well, euthanizing the old is doing that.” It is, but so is trying to prolong a family member’s life at all costs without accepting that everyone has to die sometime. It works both ways. We want Grandma to be with us forever, but in our efforts to do so, we often just end up making her suffer more.
The long and short of it is that bumping off people and trying in vain to cheat death (everyone’s eventual fate) are both playing God in different ways, and they always end badly.
I once saw a worker at a veterinarian kick a dog as I drove by. I called and reported him to the veterinarian. People are supposed to regard other living things with respect and care. Yeah, it takes patience and big deal they are irritating and cranky. BUT THE WORLD IS NOT REVOLVING AROUND THEM AND THEIR PEA BRAINS.
God is watching.
