NEW HAVEN - A 30-year-old woman was killed today in a parking lot at Yale Bowl "notorious" for tailgating, after an out of control Uhaul truck loaded with beer kegs ran over her and two other women, police and other sources said.
This is a big day for the lot because the Yale-Harvard football game is being played today.

The drinking age law means nothing if its not enforced.
Whats a few squished wimmin when there is beer??
The story reads as if the U-Haul itself was drunk......
I hope this doesn’t hurt college football /SARC /SARC /SARC /SARC /SARC /SARC /SARC /SARC /SARC /SARC
It is poorly written.
At least Rachel Corrie squared off with a buldozer....
The Current FReepathon Pays For The Current Quarters Expenses?

The people responsible for this tragedy will all attain the highest positions in our national government. They are, after all, Ivy League educated — which means they are brilliant and know how the rest of us ought to be living our lives.
Tell me about it. It was especially odd when the police released this mug shot.
Prayers to the victim and her family.
As far as the New Haven Register, they are an affirmative action employer. Above all else, apparently.
Drunk, out-of-control U-haul trucks are like those guns that suddenly jump up and start shooting everyone for absolutely no reason. Then it provides an excuse to place more controls and regs on them.
When U-hauls are outlawed only outlaws will have U-hauls!
No joke! It is basically incoherent. Unbelievable that they would print such a poorly written article in the Ivy League environs... Well, on second thought, maybe not...
Was it an SUV UHaul?
Someone has lost their life today and yet the jokes continue. amazing.
This reads like a hit piece on UHaul. What if the truck had been a Hertz rental?
I'm Ivy League-educated (at Harvard). Never voted Democrat in my life. I don't presume to tell you how to live your life. Why in the world would I know that better than you? Most FR posters paint the Ivy League with too broad a brush.
when you’re run over by a truck full of beer, I’d say alcohol was definitely involved...
Hold my beer, Jeeves.
Was there someone behind the wheel? Was the truck left in neutral and it rolled away? Was the driver speeding or backing up?
There are a lot of questions I'd like answered before I make a final judgement on this incident.
No doubt, some Democrat legislator will propose legislation outlawing the transport of beer kegs in rental trucks.
These are reputed to be “the best and brightest.” No wonder the country is in such terrible shape.
Cubreporter, I agree. Prayers for her family and friends.
Prayers for the families.
The soon-to-be filed lawsuits are going to be interesting concerning liabilty and who gets to pay.
Not only are the jokes here repulsive, but the students on the scene continued partying and drinking at the death site as if this woman’s death had been a fenderbender.
They’ll start with UHaul first. Happened in Seattle.
Sad state of affairs today that our culture has bottomed out as it has. No respect, no feeling, just jokes. All jokes. Well, I hope this woman can rest in peace and that her friends will heal.
Amen. We pray her family will find peace from those who truly care.
You need to read the full article then. Click on the headline and read it through to the end.
You need to read the full article then. Click on the headline and read it through to the end.
This is a significantly different fact pattern.
Poor lady! Prayers for her and her family, indeed!
Not only are the jokes here repulsive, but the students on the scene continued partying and drinking at the death site as if this womans death had been a fenderbender.
So what exactly is the appropriate response to another stranger who dies? Candlelit vigil? Presidential Address? Flags at half-staff, a Global Moment of Silence?
Each minute, roughly one hundred people die. This person died allegedly from injuries suffered from getting hit by a motor vehicle. How is her death any more important and sobering than the 13,846 who died last year from drunk drivers or 32,708 from motor vehicles just here in the united States? Do you mourn the death of each of the 2.1 Million babies aborted last year? Does your wardrobe consist of only black clothing?
Because yet another person died what many would say prematurely this give you the right to be a thug about not showing the amount of respect and reverence you deem is necessary and required?
We have enough bullies in the world, we don't need another that insults everyone for not weeping and moaning about the death of a total stranger - something that happens several times each second.
Elaborate post. The point was respect, not pomp.
I understand that, it’s just some lawyer will sue U-Haul along with the people who rented the truck. In the Seattle case U-Haul was sued because (1) they had deep pockets and (2) the lawyer argued the dealer didn’t show how to tie down a load so it was U-Hauls fault those boards flew out of the trailer. In this case beer kegs flew out of the truck so maybe a lawyer could argue the same point. Just saying.
A friend of mine lost her sister in a collision with a drunk driver. The guy got five years and was released barely a year later. Six months later, he killed himself and two others in yet another drunk driving accident. If he'd been given a longer sentence or been made to serve more of the one he'd been given, those two innocents would still be here. Ugh!
The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll
By Bob Dylan
William Zanzinger killed poor Hattie Carroll
With a cane that he twirled around his diamond ring finger
At a Baltimore hotel society gathrin
And the cops were called in and his weapon took from him
As they rode him in custody down to the station
And booked William Zanzinger for first-degree murder
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears
Take the rag away from your face
Now aint the time for your tears
William Zanzinger, who at twenty-four years
Owns a tobacco farm of six hundred acres
With rich wealthy parents who provide and protect him
And high office relations in the politics of Maryland
Reacted to his deed with a shrug of his shoulders
And swear words and sneering, and his tongue it was snarling
In a matter of minutes on bail was out walking
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears
Take the rag away from your face
Now aint the time for your tears
Hattie Carroll was a maid of the kitchen
She was fifty-one years old and gave birth to ten children
Who carried the dishes and took out the garbage
And never sat once at the head of the table
And didnt even talk to the people at the table
Who just cleaned up all the food from the table
And emptied the ashtrays on a whole other level
Got killed by a blow, lay slain by a cane
That sailed through the air and came down through the room
Doomed and determined to destroy all the gentle
And she never done nothing to William Zanzinger
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears
Take the rag away from your face
Now aint the time for your tears
In the courtroom of honor, the judge pounded his gavel
To show that alls equal and that the courts are on the level
And that the strings in the books aint pulled and persuaded
And that even the nobles get properly handled
Once that the cops have chased after and caught em
And that the ladder of law has no top and no bottom
Stared at the person who killed for no reason
Who just happened to be feelin that way without warnin
And he spoke through his cloak, most deep and distinguished
And handed out strongly, for penalty and repentance
William Zanzinger with a six-month sentence
Oh, but you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears
Bury the rag deep in your face
For nows the time for your tears
Was the driver a Kennedy?
can’t imagine this kind of accident at a tailgate.
