My mother was a heavy smoker, so no surprise when she succumbed to lung cancer on Christnas Day, 1992. She tried desperately to quit, but to no avail. As far as non-smokers, I believe Dana Reeve, the widow of Christopher Reeve, aka Superman, died of lung cancer and had never smoked. But she was a lounge singer who was surrounded by smokers, so maybe that’s how she got the disease.
We knew a woman who died from lung cancer. She never smoked a cigarette in her life and wasn’t around second hand smoke. Her oncologist told her quite simply if you have a body part... that part can get cancer.
