Occupy movement wants to start a financial institution

Call it the First Bank of Occupy.
The denizens of the embattled tent city on San Franciscos Justin Herman Plaza have been pushing for folks to close their accounts at big banks and put the money in credit unions instead. Now, the movement wants to form its own institution to keep their money out of the hands of the reviled 1 percent.
A survey circulating Facebook and other social networking sites asks some simple questions that occupiers hope will relay the demand for such a credit union when the results are sent to the states Department of Financial Institutions.
The effort, which will be detailed at a meeting on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at the camp, is indicative of Occupy SFs movement toward more initiative in solving some of the issues it has raised, according to Occupy member Shon Kae.

I think this one needs to Occupy Jenny Craig. I hope the Japanese whaler fleet doesn’t get ahold of his picture.

Credit unions are self-governining, democratic membership organizations, after all. Of course, they just group much of the money on deposit and invest it in time certificates with banks, so...
So... Their new objective is to join the "1%" they despise so much
Sounds like time to drop 400,000 copies of “Animal Farm” on these people.
Wow, I hope these fools do manage to charter a bank because it would greatly complicate their message. No longer could they chant, “Down with banks. Banks are evil.” Instead, it would have to be, “Down with all banks, except for ours. Banks are evil, except for ours”. Not to mention the slogans on the protest signs would have to use smaller writing, either that or they’d have to get bigger signs.
A new Sharia compliant bank, no doubt.
Bunch of children.
I know these people are idiots, but could ANYONE possibly be stupid enough to trust them with their life savings?
“Don’t worry, Mrs. Goldstein, your money is safe! I put it into a really promising macrame collective and some truly righteous weed!”
