Siri can't direct you to an abortion clinic

(CNN) -- Siri can help you find drugstores and bars, but the iPhone 4S digital assistant is clueless when it comes to the locations of abortion clinics, according to the American Civil Liberties Union.

The advocacy group this week launched an online petition asking people to send e-mails to Apple saying that "if Siri can tell us about Viagra, it should not provide bad or no information about contraceptives or abortion care. Send a message to Apple: Fix Siri."

"Although it isn't clear that Apple is intentionally trying to promote an anti-choice agenda, it is distressing that Siri can point you to Viagra, but not the Pill, or help you find an escort, but not an abortion clinic," the group wrote in a blog post Wednesday. "We're confident that the developers at Apple want to provide iPhone users with accurate information."

In case anyone logs onto cnn.com and soon forgets which site they’re on, this article should quickly remind them.

If you want an Abortion, you need to use Android.

Why is this a story?

Siri

See - the problem is - they are asking the wrong question. They should ask: "Where can I murder my unborn child?" And Siri could answer with the closest PP clinics.

It’s not like “finding an abortion clinic” is something that the average user needs to do that frequently. Well, maybe for certain extreme leftists.

I would suppose that the obvious reason for this is that there aren’t any abortion clinics that actually call themselves an “abortion clinic”. They advertise themselves as “family planning” or “women’s health” clinics or some other thing.

We are in an age where program code has more of a conscience than some people.

In a sane world, the ACLU would build its own gps for abortionists and move on.

In a sane world...

Heard about this on Rush this afternoon and, wow, did it bring back memories. According to Rush, the phone hands off the request for info to a search engine. Go talk to the search engine authors, ACLU.

The memory was the leftist harpie that ended up in my office (I was a sysadmin at the time) complaining that when she spell-checked the email message she was composing, it recognized “racist” but not “racism”.

Being a sysadmin by way of BOFH, I checked the Ultrix /usr/share/dict/words file, confirmed her complaint, and gave her the Digital Equipment Corp support hotline phone number.

She went away and didn’t come back.

Maybe if they refer the ACLU to DEC, they’ll go away... :-(

Wow, it’s so hard to tell it to search for the term, isn’t it?

Or maybe they’d prefer it immediately give turn-by-turn directions to the nearest baby killing machine? Of course they would.

I’d prefer it pop up with pictures of aborted fetuses, that picture with the baby sticking its hand out, and various pro-life counseling centers.

Good post, early. Else this thread would have probably deteriorated into "But Android doesn't even have Siri, so it's better!"
