Glad you're not a stock broker, you'd probably recommend buying high and selling low..........
Why not? I don't think people on FR willingly waste resources. Certainly not in this economic climate. You may prefer to use a LED light bulb, but you can't possibly know why many people want to use various incandescent light bulbs. Maybe your computers consume too much power and it would be in the public interest to limit your use...
Sorry, we have bigger problems than light bulbs.Maybe, but probably not. That problem is an overweening and plenary government. One designed to be neither. May I suggest Hertz Rent-A-Clue?
History is chock full of examples of the old being replaced by the new through natural market forces.
Not too many folks using wooden plows or stone knives these days. They were replaced by metals because people wanted the more durable metal implements. Not many kids going to arcades and stuffing quarters into video games. Market forces closed the arcades and put them into a small home based format. Can you even buy a black and white TV these days? If not, its because not enough were sold to make it profitable to manufacture them.
I have no doubt that the incandescent bulb and internal combustion engine will one day go the way of the dinosaur, but in a free world it will be because the consumer no longer wants them.
Well, we now have a “fee” attached to our water bill that has doubled the bill.
Please my FRiend you must have me confused with someone that really gives a shit about lightbulbs. My only point in this discussion is to point out that in certain ways technology changes for the better.
Do I agree that government needs to make us change our approach? No I do not, however once in a while we trick the dumb bastards who think they have mandated things and they play into our hands. Led’s are the best thing that has happened in a long time.
And to bring up unions is really silly. Matter of fact it has nothing to do with this discussion. I am a small businessman that is in a right to work state. These union idiots have caused our sales to decrease by 50% in the last three years. They even closed the road to east Zion National Park last year to use their stimulus money with a union crew to resurface a road that didn’t need resurfacing. We are doing everything we can to lower costs. One of those ways is to cut costs of electricity.
We already drive to SC for fireworks and gasoline. Why not lightbulbs?
Well, for my eyes, the spectrum of a clear incandescent bulb has always been the best...
(I’ve tried to post a reply a bunch of times on the thread but got 503’d every time!!)
If LEDs win in the market place, so be it. But NOT by government decree.
Screw them.
I actually like the florescent bulbs for certain places but I don’t want to sit around and squint at it all the time.
Get used to it? I DON’T think so. They can KMA and I have enough in storage to use until I’m gone and to pass on to 2 generations.
LED is great for focus or “spot” light, but they are not designed as a flood style light.
Does anyone know if this ban includes the outdoor flood lights? I have tried CFL’s in our motion detectors and they proved to be useless!
I have stocked up.
Now I’m wonderingwill they know I’m using?
Way to go!
You said it much better than I ever could.
