New Rifle Project

Posted on 12/06/2011 10:50:55 AM PST by GunHoardingCapitalist

So earlier this year, I came across a great deal, two late '60's Winchester model 94 30-30's, one was in decent shape and had an octagon barrel (unfortunately not the collectable one) and the other a total rust bucket I was just going to use for a wall piece. Paid $50 each for them, great deal! I got thinking last night that I should just do something crazy with the rust bucket it since it will never be a valuable rifle so I stripped the old blue off and started working on the pitted rust and it came to me. Being the Packer fan that I am, I have decided to make it into Green Bay Packers tribute piece. This is what I am thinking, powder coat the receiver, barrel band and sights green bay green, then powder coat the barrel, magazine tube, trigger, firing assembly and lever assembly yellow. As well as engraving the team logo on the receiver with gold inlay. Now this is where its going to get interesting, I am thinking about making a custom grip for it turning it into a long barrel lever action 30-30 pistol. The rework on the lever handle would not be that difficult to modify for a full pistol grip, just some cutting and TIG welding. I figured since I already have four model 94's already and this is almost a total loss to begin with might as well have some fun with it. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Consider Lauer Custom Weaponry's Firearms' Duracoat instead. It's actually more heat and abrasion-resistant than powder coat, and far less prone to chipping or c racking. It's become my finish of choice in preference to either the old British military *Suncorite* or H&K's proprietary finish on their MP5 and HK33 SMGs and rifles. And, yep, they've got the GBT colours you need.

This project has all the makings of a "hold my beer and watch this" news story. Let's review the findings:

Midwestern male

Reasonable amount of handymandedness

Interesting project to take on over the miserable winter

A man, alone in his workshop for hours on end

From ehow.com:

According to the Packers website, the official team colors are dark green, gold and white. Many professional colorists refer to the Pantone color system to match colors appropriately. To be more specific, the corresponding Pantone Matching System (PMS) numbers for the Green Bay Packer team colors are 5535-C (dark green) and 1235-C (gold).

No, Rhodesian *babypoo* paint on a FAL looks like poo. It's supposed to.

Thanks for the clarification. I’ll keep an eye on the Seattle PI for your story :-)
