BCS Bowl Games

Posted on 12/06/2011 6:07:21 PM PST by TheDailyChange

BCS SUKS!

The Boise Broncos deserve a BCS bowl game. Would like to seem them play against Michigan Wolverines.

Boise Broncos defeated the Oklahoma Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl a few years ago.

The ONLY game I am watching this year in National Championship and the Broncos.

SKREW the rest of slanted BS coming out of the BCS

Agreed, but...you know you’re going to watch the Wisconsin/Oregon game, aka Rose Bowl.

Nobody will take your team seriously until they get rid of the smurf turf.

That stuff is hideous.

Does that include the cheerleaders, football players and since beastiality is now acceptable in the eyes of the Gov., does that include mascots?

LSU will win the Crown. The Sugar Bowl will be absolutely boring this year.

Boring? Personally I can't wait to see two of the best defenses in the history of modern college football smash heads one more time. It will be much more entertaining than watching LSU beat Ok. St. 85-0.

LOL...even in a down year (save for LSU and Alabama), Boise still isn’t among the top 8 teams.

You’ve managed to pull a lusty upset or two in the past, but BSU would be a 6-6 team in the SEC.

Sorry.

Not to split hairs, but the Sugar Bowl isn’t the BCS Championship Game.

Both the SB and the BCSCG will be in the Superdome, but they’re two different animals.

I would hope you know that. Nor was I referring to LSU and Alabama being boring who will be playing in the BCS Championship game. It’s Michigan and Virginia Tech that will be boring who play in the Sugar Bowl.

I am glad to see a rising tide of opposition to the obscene fascist BCS uberstate. I demand we return to the glorious days of yesteryear--four Bowls, with the Rose Bowl the uncontested queen, attended by the Orange, Sugar and Cotton Bowls. All the rest can scramble for TV time between December 15th and 31st. I think the Liberty Bowl used to kick off on the 15th. For what it's worth.

For the championship we should have the coaches' poll and the writers' poll and that's it. If they disagree on number One, so be it. They disagree--great stuff for conversation and argument through the long cold winter ahead.

Nobody profits from the current whorehouse arrangement except degenerate gamblers and other lower life forms.

I know you meant to include the Sun Bowl. You have to give props to El Paso. It's as old as the Orange and Sugar Bowl.

I’m a Bama fan and was kinda hoping to play Stanford. #1 defense vs #1 offense. That might be a great game. BCS sux. Gimme a playoff.

I have just two teams that I care anything at all about.

What a year!!! First the Cardinals take the Series and now LSU goes unbeaten into the BCS Championship! And the Honey Badger is up for the Heisman too!!! To bad nothing else is going as well...

Cardinals suck! But a great game six. My Rangers really sucked. Honey Badger won't win, but so great he made the list of 5. My two cents is on some creep named Trent Richardson who we will stop in the BCS Championship. Have to write, I think Robert Griffin III has great numbers and pulled it off against Oklahoma and Texas. He is just as deserving.

GEAUX LSU

You may want to reconsider watching the Boring Bowl, the SEC rerun of LSU/AL. That is just about as exciting as watching ice melt. LSU and OKlahoma St. would have been a GREAT game, pitting the SEC’s defense against the Big 12 offense, but the moss backs who voted wanted to bore us one more time with a field goal extravaganza.

That could be true (but I doubt it). I haven't really followed BSU that closely but I think they were pretty banged up. Even so, they ended up ranked #7 in the BCS, and end up in the Las Vegas Bowl?

Why even have rankings if they mean nothing in selecting which teams go where? With the current system, if you're a big named school from a major conference, as long as you finish better than 500 (or under as is the case with UCLA), you're predetermined to get a favorable bowl.

Maybe they should have a similar system in pro sports with standings meaning nothing?

Yeah, of course the Rose Bowl should be “undisputed queen” of bowls. Everyone knows that they have the best teams out West. Haven’t they won like the last 5 or six National Championships!?
Oh, wait, that would be the SEC. Sorry. My mistake......hehehe.

Oddly enough, the SEC and other conferences proposed a four team play off years ago. It was vetoed by OK State’s conference. I find that quite ironic.

The USC Trojans don't play the SEC very often, but their record vs. SEC teams is 17-10-1.

FEAR THE SMURF!

Agreed - they got hosed. And if they were in the SEC they'd be able to recruit more blue chips - look what they've done with less recruited player. I don't buy that "they'd be 6-6 and losers all the time" stuff - give Coach Peterson a few years and you'd rue the day they came into the SEC. No team has done more with less recently. Matching them with ASU while giving Me-Chicken and a team they already beat (i.e. UGA) better bowls just plain stinks.

I'm no fan of the BCS, but I think it's an improvement over the method used to pick national champions in prior decades. The period from 1980 until sometime in the mid-1990s was something of an anomaly, because the AP anc Coaches' poll system was biased towards independent schools for national titles. This was because the major conference champions were locked into specific bowl games, while top independents always had the ability to accept a bowl bid that matched them up against a #1 or #2 ranked team. This is why teams like Penn State, Miami and Notre Dame had a disproportionate number of national championships in that era compared to any of the conferences.

It was rare for a Big Tem or PAC-10 team to win a national title back in those years, because the champions from those two conferences got automatic Rose Bowl bids and never had the ability to play a #1 or #2 team from another conference, or among the independents.

can you spell M-O-N-E-Y ? they couldn't care less about which team is the "champion". If you are Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio State, Wisconsin, USC...etc, chances are that if you even have an average season, you'll be in for some post season play. The reason for that is because these, and some other, teams have huge followings with huge bucks.

VV... You seem to be a big LSU fan, so help me out with a memory lapse I have.

Many years ago, LSU had a coach named Charlie ________?. He developed a fantastic defensive squad that seemed to crush every opponent. That defensive group was called the “Chinese Bandits”.

I’m pretty sure the coach’s name was Charlie, but I just can’t recall his last name.
