Here is a suggestion that you may not want, but when it comes to ease of use, speed, software, operating system, and just about every other point there is, nothing compares to “new”.

Saving only 60 dollars a year would give you 360 dollars at the end of six and plenty enough to buy a brand new windows 7 laptop, with built in camera, card reader, etc, and almost trouble free.

Three hundred sixty, is in the AMD dual core cpu range and soon probably in the i3 Intel cpu arena. Just a suggestion. I have laptops going back at least six years, and a couple of new ones, and there is no comparison.

Now for the first buy a new computer with Windows 7 or Apple OS statement.

Just kidding about that. Although it might be better with a new computer.

Like everyone else before has suggested, please use VLC media player.

Yes you are right but I’m not in a position at this time to buy new. It will be at least 6 months and then I do intend to do just that. Thanks.

VLC

I have been using it for 9+ years. It’s free and works with just about any video format you can come up with.

Others have linked to it.

I use VLC as well ... additionally, it allows me to play DVDs from England, Hungary, and Australia without a problem.

Thank you so much for your help! Here’s where I am and I’m hoping with all of your expertise, I can get some further information.

I’ve uploaded the VLC player as suggested but now, I’ve put a DVD in the drive; the message that keeps coming back is ‘please insert a Disk into drive D’, which I’ve already done.

I’m a bit low on patience so haven’t gone through the ‘help’ file because I was hoping someone here could advise with additional info or experience if you can.

Thanks so much for your help!

Are you sure that your DVD drive is drive D? If so, there might be a problem with you DVD drive.

Ignore the error message. Start VLC Media Player, Click Media > Open Disc. Select DVD and click Play.

If that fails, try another DVD. If that fails, it will be time to start testing the drive to see if it is bad.

Yes it’s drive D. CDs play fine in the drive.

I knew this was too good to be true lol :(
