My kids watched “Tora Tora Tora!” on the Netflix streaming video this afternoon. I caught the beginning, with all the Japanese guys, before I had to go to bed.

After review of Norwich selection. Boy are we in trouble that selection show scant knowledge of archival material or of what was going on during that time...

My favorite part in that movie was when the Tomcats were just toying around with the Zeroes before shooting them down. It was fun imagining that happening for real.
One of my favorites also. Can you imagine what it would feel like to think that you were the best man and machine in the air and then see one of those coming after you. What the hell have we gotten ourselves into!?

I find it more realistic.I served on a carrier shortly before Final Countdown was made. I concur.
I particularly liked the part where they bring that last Corsair II aboard with a malfunctioning hook. The A-7 was spotted exactly where it would be during a barricade drill. It brought back a few memories.

I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark,
When he made Pearl Harbor.
I miss you more then that movie missed the point,
And that’s an awful lot girl.
And now, now you’ve gone away,
And all I’m trying to say,
Is Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you
I need you like Ben Affleck needs acting school,
He was terrible in that film.
I need you like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part,
He’s way better then Ben Affleck.
And now all I can think about is your smile,
And that #@$@ty movie too,
Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you
Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies.
I guess Pearl Harbor sucked,
Just a little bit more then I miss you.

It wasn't a drill. That's an actual A-7 taking the barricade, while the film crew happened to be aboard. The footage was so great they decided to incorporate it into the movie.

I lived just outside Pearl Harbor when I was a kid. They filmed Tora Tora Tora at that time and we watched the zeros in the skies from our Navy housing. Lots of smoke and noise. Wow.

Here you go!
I've always liked the part where the Tomcats' sweep their wings back as they accelerate after getting the "draw them off, play with them" order.

Have the Germans made a film from their, the attackers point of view?

Do you have link or know that for sure? It has been a long time since I saw it but I remember that there was some brilliant editing but you never saw the A-7 take or in the barricade.

While the plot in the movie was “shaky” at best. At least the attitudes and jargon used by the sailors seemed to be correctly.

The Final Countdown is on Netflix streaming section. A odd, but good movie. Really good authentic scenes on a carrier

That is what I am talking about. Some of those sailors may have been shipmates of mine. They used some real sailors in the film.

The other good part is when they fly low over the yacht when it was under attack.
Charles Durning (WWII vet who came ashore early at Normandy) who played the Senator; gave a great portrayal of what it would have been like to see them.

Saw Tora, Tora, Tora with my father, a Pearl Harbor survivor. He said it was very inaccurate.
I did kind of like The Final Countdown. At least it didn’t pretend to be accurate

I loved the Final Countdown right up to the last few minutes when they chickened out. They did the smart thing. They knew the USA would win eventually. To intervene would introduce too much uncertainty
