This intolerance for other peoples religion is really getting on my nerves.

It is supposed to be happy time of the year.

Make it so...

Ah has spoken.

Christmas is the day on which Christians celebrate the birth of the Savior of mankind, and this is good news for everyone on the planet.

More accurately, you believe this is good news.

Quite a few Jews, due to the unfortunate past behavior of "Christians" towards Jews, see little good about the news of the birth of the person who founded the religion that persecuted them for over 1500 years.

I of course do not hold Christ himself responsible for the behavior of some who claimed to follow him, but I have known Jews who did.

I heard a checkout gal at the LOWES I shop at say “Happy Holidays” to the customer just in front of me. I wished her a Merry Christmas as I finished paying. She had a big smile on her face and thanked me.

My opinion: As a Jewish American, I am never offended when someone wishes me a "Merry Christmas". Nor do I see any need to disclose my faith and in essence, beg for a different greeting.

Why? Because the spirit of such an offered wish is what matters. When you tell a person: "Merry Christmas", you are wishing them joy and peace. It is an act of kindness and kinship to which only an ungracious or angry person would object.

I quite agree. However, such people exist.

I used to know one Jewish person who would be quite nasty if someone wished her a Merry Christmas, stating loudly her religious affiliation.

I always wanted to suggest she consider wearing a yellow star so people wouldn’t misidentify her.

True. But the best course of action with such people is to react with nothing but kindness. To do so accomplishes three things: it makes you feel positive, it denies the ability of another to control your emotions, and it shames those who have acted poorly.

Today I got my best ever (surprise) Christmas gift from one of my aforementioned Jewish friends .... a little Korean. An afternoon, including lunch, at a Korean bath house/spa. OMG. OMG. What a treat that was.
