Weight of water from global warming is causing and will cause large earthquakes!!
Vanity post

Posted on 12/26/2011 9:15:48 PM PST by Wicket

A friend of mine watches the History Channel, because that's true information. Apparently she's seen a program twice about how global warming is causing the ice to melt and the additional weight of the water is increasing the likelihood of earthquakes.

Danger, Will Robinson, danger!!!

The solution to Globul Warming is an easy one: The Goberment should order everybody to turn around their AC in their windows - to make cold air be blown outside,in to the street. If enough people do that, the temps outside will go down. Obviously the AC should be as energy efficient as possible, and if you can’t afford an AC for this purpose the Government should provide you with a grant.

It is true. The weight of water behind China’s 3 gourges dam has already triggered a few earthquakes. Melting the ice caps in Greenland would certainly cause large earthquakes.

Nah - tell her the extra weight of the water keeps the tectonic plates from sliding so reduces earthquakes.

Ice does not weigh anything so it is OK to store water in ice form to avoid danger from all the weight of molten ice.

Oh, why bother...

Tell her she doesn't have to worry about the melting icecaps causing earthquakes.

She'll probably drown from the rising oceans.

No, the inequitable redistribution of molten ice will cause planetary imbalance, like losing a balance weight off the tire of your car ... whop, whop, whop, whop. All the sloshing around will then unfairly inundate predominantly progressive coastal environments, with women and minorities hardest hit. The earthquakes will be secondary.

And what’s worse, those Palin snowbillies will get better weather and more land, so it’s clearly reactionary.

A fleet of seaborne windfarms with icemakers is the answer, but not within sight of any liberal enclave. Maybe they can be anchored off Alabama or something? Certainly nowhere near Massachussetts.

If you know the name of the episode, please post it on your thread. Junk scientists should be held accountable for unfounded rumors such as this one.

BTW, I’ll check back in a week or so, as it will take me that long to stop laughing. ROTFLMAO!

I read about 3 Gourges Dam causing earthquakes in China.

I bet all those earthquakes out west are caused by the construction of Hoover Dam and Lake Meade. Lake Meade being the 16th largest man-made lake in the world and the largest man- made lake in the Western Hemisphere.

But I wonder what caused the earthquakes before Hoover Dam was built. Hoover Dam was finished in 1936.

The Great San Francisco Earthquake was in 1906.

Since installing my new satellite dish, I have been watching
a lot of History, and Natl. Geo programs, but I never remember which one had what.

I do, however, notice that they inject AGW into most every
geological program, even if there is no logic behind it, such as earthquakes and tsunamis.

They have had some interesting programs on cataclysmic events in ancient history, all earthquake or volcanic in origin, but tend to morph AGW into the cause for similar events that could happen now.

I frequently want to hurl a brick at my TV when they pull this crap.

Well, I guess you're right, it is silly to anchor wind-powered icemakers off Alabama. Appealing as it is, it's just not energy efficient.

Alaska, that's it. "I can see icemakers from my house," yep. Perfect! Those poor wolves will be safe from helicopters in the shelter of windmills and they'll be buried in ice as nature has always intended.

Balance restored, sea levels begin to fall and the world is safe for progressivity.

Exactly correct.

To wit, ask 1,000 high school or college graduates which of the following is heaviest (or lightest):

a.) 1 lb. of feathers
b.) 1 lb. of bricks
c.) 1 lb. of gold
d.) 1 lb. of dog sh!t
e.) None. They are all equal in weight.

I guarantee you that more than 50% of the fools that believe in the phenomena of man-made “global warming” / “climate change” (or registered Democrats) would fail to pick “e”.

There you are America! The public schools and universities of the USA have successfully created millions of idiots. (And these are the idiots that vote “D”, which is why Obama, the DOJ and DNC are working so hard to void voter ID laws.

Only idiots, imbeciles, ignoramuses, jackasses and fools vote for Democrats.

Interesting, decided to do some brief research, as I had recalled something about 3 gorges damn and the Indonesian earthquake. When completely filled, the dam will increase the length of the 'day' by .06 microseconds. By comparison, the Indonesian earthquake shortened the day by 2.68 microseconds. Going JUST by these two isolated measurements, we are still in a deficit of 2.62 microseconds just from the earthquake, and man's largest accumulation of weight in a single project just barely tips the scales of 2% of effect of a single natural event on the daily rotational time of the earth.

Always we must remember that even the most concentrated efforts by man simply is barely registered by the vast engine that is our planet.
