My first German shephard, Gretchen, was without a doubt the best all around dog I have ever had. She was a beauty.

She didn’y like to eat alone, so she would carefully carry her bowl to wherever I was was in the house, lie down and politely eat her food. When I brought home my third baby, Gretchen led us up the stairs to the nursery, and promptly took up her post. We’d had her about four years at that pint. She was quite the lady!

The only time I ever heard her growl in menace was when an illy clad plumber came to the house. I told her it was okay, so she calnmed down, but she stayed on the alert until he d finished his job and left. Great dog! It’s been over 40 years and I still miss Gretchen.

Iam sory you had a bad expeieeience with what, yes, we used ro call them Police dogs. They are highly intelligent and can be trained very well.

With any dog it is wise to buy from a reputable breeder, do your homework on the breed of chooice and see it’s dam and sire. I hoopae you will give the Gernman Shephard another chance to beifhten your olife.

I will. I love all dogs. Right now I have five but when the time comes to get another dog I might give a GSD a try, especially since we don’t have any small children. Another dog right now is out of the question though unless it’s an emergency rescue. I currently have a Jack Russell Terrorist in the house, a 140lb Bloodhound and three rescues outside. Two of the rescues are half black mouth Mountain Cur. One is 60lb and the other is 70lb. I picked them up off the highway when they were 6 weeks old. My fifth dog is an Aussie that my neighbor moved off and left. My dog food bill and Vet care cost gets enormous at times. LOL
